Skrim is EXTREMELY laggy but once u get it fixed it is good plus batman:arkam city is awesome, these two were best of the year.

This is GameSpot's Game of the Year of 2011.
Why didn't see that one coming, Skyrim should have gotten the worst game of the year award for the simple fact that it DIDN'T WORK. Saints Row The Third would have one if gaming wasn't in a downwards spiral
@RageQuitter69 Wtf do you mean it it didnt work? and 2011 was an amazing year for games idk what your talking about
IN YOUR FACE ACTIVISONE FANS, GO CRY OVER ALL OF YOUR SUCKY CALL OF DUTY GAMES!!! MO A HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ghost trick obviously should of won (jks) XD But, still, I loved Ghost trick, bloody nice, especially the ending and ending cut scene!
Dark Souls > Skyrim by far.... >.> Just seeing the first person slashing in skyrim deserves a tsktsktsk... >
Don't want to spoil the Brotherhood Quest he mentioned. But the conversation in that coffin was the weirdest gaming experience I've ever had. So freaky and creepy.
Skyrim is amazing. I have had the game from day one and I still haven't seen everything. Not many games make you feel like you are on a journey. And the Dwemer ruins are just breathtaking. The game is also massive. If they could find a way to do away with the glitches, this game would easily be a 10.
I agree 100% it's good to see a gaming site not corrupted by Sony or Batman and deliver a honest opinion. In a year or two the only game people will still be playing is skyrim. It deserves the praise.
i don't know what to say... but this game is the new age for all games. probably the amazing game of all time. skyrim and dragon age origins is now the best games i ever played.
@flaxgrass: High level of polish? You do realize that game has an amazing amount of glitches? Ya'know, I've been realizing lately, GOTY is mostly chosen by popularity. Skyrim was by far the most awaited game of the year, and as for last year, Red Dead Redemption was definitely the most popular of them, not the best, the most popular. I'd bet everything I own that next year Mass Effect 3 will be GOTY. I'm gonna start ignoring these game of the year awards ¬¬
You know van ord was rallying for dark souls hour after hour in that conference room. or maybe someone else I guess I dont know. I really think Dark Souls would have won if it didn't have frame rate issues. Skyrim is a sick game though and I've really enjoyed it. just so f-ing epic, I think it deserves to win as much as Dark Souls, but Skyrim has really high level of polish. Im glad dirt 3 got nominated, the driving in that game is unbelieveably good. I also want to get F1 2011 Codemasters is a great studio. definitely recommend getting a racing wheel for those games. Just spend as much as possible.
I must say Skyrim is a really good game. For me the game of the year came down to skyrim or Dark Souls but after much thinking i realised nothing drew me back the way that Dark Souls does. Its on another level. Some may disagree saying its to hard and such. To me it is a true gamers game of the year. :D
to all who complain about the scores: scores are give by a single reviewer but game of the year is chosen by all of them
Uncharted 3 not even nominated WTF!! It should have been nominated atleast but Skyrim deserves the award. GAMESPOT YOU HAVE SOLD YOUR SOULS TO MICROSOFT!!!
consider this: all these games are great ... but Skyrim has barely even statted. in january it releases it's Game Creation program - it's modding tools. even without this it already has hundreds of mods that improve and change the game. this doesn't even count upcoming DLC. the re-playability of this game is going to be incredible ... a worthy choice to be sure.
I hated oblivion. But Skyrim is a fantastic game. Personally I would have ranked this game a full 10 if it wasn't for a few in game glitches and the PS3 bug issues
huge games like skyrim are bound to have bugs and imperfections. looking at the larger picture, though, it is easy to see the reason it won.
I agree with "antigin". I was playing DARK SOULS when I bought SKYRIM. Played a bit but came back to DARK SOULS. Maybe they have different criteria for a game to be the game of the year. Otherwise there is, however, a difference between 9.0 and 9.5. But I also consider SKYRIM to be a nice addition to my collection!
How do they review the games? TES5 Skyrim - 9.0 Game of the Year Gears of War - 9.5 Dark Souls - 9.5 Hello, is here a logics? GOTY 2009: Demon's Souls (9.0) while they reviewed Uncharted 2, FM3 and DAO (PC) 9.5.
skyrim had a big trade off in my opinion from oblivion.in oblivion you could completely ignore the lore, characters, stories and main story and just focus on getting stronger with insane enchantments, powerful custom spells, and hilarious buffs but in skyrim you are thrusted into an immersive easy to follow story that keeps you thinking non-stop until you get a satisfying ending to a story but you usually end up with either a pathetic reward or no reward at all (i'm not saying that is the situation with every quest just most) so in the end skyrim has a deep story great gameplay but not enough insanely overpowered and wierd stuff that made obblivion so much fun for me
Well, given that I haven't played this gem yet (mostly because I'm waiting for the optimization mods for the PC version), I can't make an honest call. But, like a poster a few comments down I also was pulling for Portal 2 for the win. Just an all around great experience - the gorgeous visuals, immersion, fleshing out of an intriguing story introduced in the first, and for a time-challenged person like me, it's length, it just hit all the right notes. In the wake of such a brilliant production, it's a tragedy to hear Valve is abandoning single player intimacy for mainstream social network projects. As a bastion of the SP paradigm, I'll definitely check out Skyrim.
Dark Souls and Battlefield (in particular order) will be my second and third to Skyrim's number one. All three are my proudest spent purchases for gaming this year.
