Good but not as good as everyone thinks it to be.

Difficulty:
Easy
Time Spent:
100 or More Hours
The Bottom Line:
"Mixed reactions"
I played both Oblivion and now the new Skyrim.
I liked both games. After beating Oblivion and all the main quests I felt like I had nothing else to do in the game, so I put it aside. After a year or two I thought to myself, hey wouldn't it be fun if I played Oblivion once again? Well, I tried to anyways. I remembered the story too well and everything had a nostalgic feeling to it, so I quickly gave up on it. This game had a great first time experience but no replay value at all.

Same with Skyrim. I loved the Story and was completely engulfed by it. After playing a few hours all I thought about was what would happen next, how would the story unfold and how I could make my character stronger.
I spent a few days like this and I loved all the guild quests, more so than the main quest. After a while, not as long as I would have liked, I completed the game. My favorite quest line was by far the Dark Brotherhood :). However now that I had beaten everything I felt bored and no real urge to play the game anymore. i tried creating a new character and played a few hours but the fun quickly faded away. I thought If I could just get back into it, I'd be having fun again. But no luck.
As I began one of the quest lines again, I remembered everything and somehow everything felt less fun and less entertaining, I thought to myself how could I have liked the game so much.

I think this game might be a bit too open world. I felt at times lost and didn't know what I should do next. I remember the games where you had one way set out for you and no open world at all. I like open world games but there should be some sort of direction for you to follow, more so than the quests do in Skyrim. There should be something in between.

Another thing that bothered me so suddenly was this. Every time you started a quest and started following the directions you were stopped by some random stranger asking you to help him out with another quest. So basically you started 10 other quests just by following one quest. On one hand this is good and the game's charm, but on the other hand, I didn't wanna start another quest right in the middle of this one. I felt annoyed and almost angry that the game expected so much of me. All the little things started bothering me. It's hard to explain why.

So that's how I feel right now. Every time I see the game lying around, I think, oh no, I don't wanna play that again.

I think the game is good, quickly gets quite boring though and has no real replay value.

If you are looking for a great RPG, there are better games than Skyrim out there, I think. But this'll do for most gamers. This game gets so much love, a little too much in my opinion.

  1. Better than Oblivion, not as good as Morrowind, Skyrim is a vast, beautiful open world for you to explore as you choose.
