So many haters... yet still lurking the boards. If you're so disappointed, sell the game and move on! No one is forcing you to play it. But we all know even a year from now some of these same trolls will STILL be lurking this board.

Yeah, it sucks. All I have to do is run up and mash attack and bam, everyone dies.

Too simple for me. I wish it had depth like Final Fantasy XIII's combat.

Jesus Christ I can't believe u guys let this one slip by...... Most of ff13 was mashing attack and nuke. It was awful compared to the previous titles.

Usually when an rpg is made, the combat system is the first thing they work on, that IS the game.

But because TES is just a glorified FPS.... there is no battle system. It works just like a first person shooter. Point and shoot. That's it.

I don't think they ever put much thought into it besides "OOooOOOoooOOH let's let them have special powers!" And even then they didn't realize that dragon shouts are basically magic spells. So the magic system sucked too.

It's still a decent game if you don't get bored of Bioshock gameplay.

Wrong, the first thing they work on is the stroy.

The combat is pretty boring. If they had a dodge button, or a parry, or some way to react to the enemy instead of just trading hits with them, or slowly walking in and out of range, it would be much better.
I want to be able to go up against a tough foe who would kill me toe to toe, and kill him by being fast and nimble, not by glitching him onto some rocks or something.

I agree. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Skyrim but if there's ONE thing I have to nitpick about it would be the combat. While it does necessarily "get the job done" it is pretty lackluster in comparison to the rest of the game. At first I didn't mind it but after over 150 hours it does get rather stale. It's one thing I really hope they address for the new Elders Scrolls game, make an all new innovative combat system. Where I can perry/grab or pick and choose how I finish him off via execution. Something more fluid and organic looking rather than clunky and spammy.

Yeah, the combat's bad, but for me at least, TES games are all about exploration and lore so I can easily overlook the bad combat.

I heard Toeh created the dungur, to kill the draugr that talcos put there. Actually, shooting the dungur magic was my favorite part of the game.

It really does have bland, uninteresting combat, though. Perhaps its most shallow aspect.

Elder Scrolls games are not known for their amazing combat systems. Why would Skyrim be any different?

What a stupid excuse to make a game have terrible combat.

It's a game, it's supposed to be played for the gameplay. No game should be excused for terrible gameplay.

ITT: combat is the only aspect of gameplay.

Personally I don't even find it that bad. When I'm playing some boring-ass sword-and-board character, sure, it gets pretty tedious. But when I mix it up with a Two-Handed, zombie-raising maniac or a crossbow-wielding badass who sets traps with runes and actually strategizes, it gets a lot better.

But even so, when it boils down to it, combat is not the core of this game. It is an aspect, but it's not the focus, like it is with an FPS. It's just a means to get what you want, really (experience and loot).
