It's an archaic verb meaning "meeting". Anglo-Saxon.

Look things up before you say something like this, don't post on the net and not do any research. You will be begging for trouble. The flaming troll kind...

What on earth is the purpose of a message board then, if you're supposed to research everything before you dare post on one?

A message board is for a group of people to convene and discuss the appropriate subject or hold semi-intelligent conversations/debates--- a moot, if you will. Of course, 99% of the time people like you come on and post stupid topics with no prior knowledge of the subject at hand; usually in an attempt to be humorous. Needless to say, you failed hard, TC.

The subject being antiquated definitions of words that are no longer in common use, and by definition would be unfamiliar to most speakers of the language? You got me there, bud. I'll make sure to keep my copy of the OED handy before I post.

Ever heard of the internet? The thing you're using right now? In our day and age, there's no excuse to not do a quick Google search and learn about something you may not know about BEFORE going on a forum making an idiot of yourself.

Well, if I was under the (admittedly mistaken) impression that "moot" as used here was a made-up word, why would I Google it? For a topic that wasn't serious to begin with, you're taking this mighty seriously.

...yep. Just because an internet forum exists does not absolve a person's responsibility to display some sense of intellectual curiosity and look something up for themselves. In an age where you can open a browser and get just about any piece of information you want in a matter of seconds, there's absolutely no excuse for not doing your background work.

Otherwise, you just purport yourself as an ignorant, lazy, entitled clown, especially when you flame or insult people who actually are good enough to clarify your misconceptions or ignorance. Neither of those latter characteristics are actually virtues.

I've used moot in conversation. Perhaps you should've payed attention in school.
