Sit back in the shadows, cast fury, and watch them kill each other. Dance puppets!!!...dance.

I haven't been much of a magic user but I'm loving Illusion.

Yeah, I was skeptical because of its level limitations, but situations always present themselves.

Probably the best thing about it is that I'm playing without armor on master and most things kill me in one or two shots unless I'm careful. So, emerging from the shadows after everything is dead feels especially badass.

One of my fondest experiences in this game was from illusion/sneak. I was in the bandit cave where they have pit wolves fighting. I snuck up to the bar area while invisible. Cast or dual cast fury at a thug and quickly recast invisibility. The thug never noticed me and drew his sword and headed straight for the other bandit behind the bar. The guy behind the bar started walking toward his attacker oblivious to what was about to happen, and greeted him with a "Hi friend" as he was ran through with a sword kill animation. I had a good laugh. Haven't been able to recreate that since. Don't know if there was a patch or something that changed things but now most npcs know if some one has fury and will attack them it seems and even though I have silent casting they become a little bit aware that something is going down. Too bad.

I'm wondering what happens if you cast calm on one and fury on another...

The aggressive NPC will attack the calm NPC, making the calm NPC turn aggressive towards him.

Dang, I was hoping that calm would only wear off if YOU attack, and the pitiful wretch would not protest to his own murder. I suppose you can just recast...

    I love that sort.

My favorite so far was in the draugr crypt where you fight the Gauldurson dude with the absorb health sword. I just crawled up on a ledge and cast fury on the weaker draugr as they emerged from their tombs, keeping him busy, and finally finished him off with my bow. Pretty inauspicious end for the brute, but such is power of illusion of Miaria Sintus; vampire witch!

Does the level cap go up as you raise your Illusion skill ? Also how can you tell who the weaker enemies are from afar ? You need to be in melee range for the labels to appear ( such as bandit, bandit outlaw, bandit thug, etc. )

That's a good question. There are perks that allow you to cast illusion spells for higher level enemies. This thread seems to suggest you can cast the fury spell for enemies up to level 52! http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/615803-/61336887

That's a lot more than I thought and I think the level is even higher for calm and fear.

And you can't really tell who is who besides the more obvious enemies. Briar hearts tend to have a more unique look as well as Bandit chiefs. As far as Arch spellcasters and volkihar master vampires/nightmasters are concerned, it's just trial and error.

Still, if that thread is true, you should be able to calm even the highest level NPC, although fury is just out of reach for the volkihar master (53) and nightmaster. I have to start dual casting...

Most important perk is Dual Cast, as it doubles the level cap for spells, after adding to the cap from other perks.

    e.g. Pacify = level 20 cap

+10 from Kindred Mage (against a human target)
    +8 from Hypnotic Gaze

    = 38 x2 from Dual Cast = 76

Pity master level spells don't get the dual cast bonus. And undead/falmer/vampires usually only get a bonus from one perk and dual cast. I think Necromage would help against the undead and vampires though, and there are always potions.

76 is enough for anything. And, it's 72 for the frenzy spell. 72 x 1.25 (+25% against undead) = 90 for draugr and vampires. Geez, I may not dual cast after all. It'll be too easy.

For Fury, you do not really need Silent Casting, as you are typically far enough away that the very minor amount of noise it makes, will not alert enemies as to your location.
It is the second quietest spell, after Muffle.

Ugh, geez...I might as well start this character over again. It may be just as well, though, I like casting conjuration spells from the shadows as well.

Fury does pair well with a silent Atronach/reanimation... or a dozen.
