    I remember when the game was first launched there was lots of talk of a pure mage build being underpowered and falling off towards endgame. How true is this currently? I tend to always go for magic routes in games like this - other classes don't interest me as much. Any particular strategies I should stick to?

    Nothing's really changed with it, but get the Better Magic mod. It's just what it sounds like.

    magic was poorly implemented compared to other things....

    SkyRe or other mods go and change destruction magic to make it more like one handed/archery.

    in that enchantments now give damage instead of reduced cost, perks for increased damage.... what have you.

    without that perks and skillpoints in the skill are wasted since they only reduce casting cost and you could do that with enchanting alone.

    I use Apocalypse and Midas together. It adds enough solid spells to make Destruction a bit more worthwhile. Although the drop for several spells in the 3.02-03 patch has me slightly annoyed - Cryoblast isn't worth using at all now (takes far too long for the minimal effect that results).

    Also, an optional mod that I recommend is Magic Duel.
