Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the expansion, but lets face facts here people, Bethesda designed this expansion, for magic based characters.

Here is why I say this and what I based this topic off of:
I'm a one-handed fighter, and so far the only two things that I've been able to benefit from, is the extra skill point I chose from one of the black books and the ability to make Stahlrim items other than that, everything else only benefits magic based characters.

    Miraak's outfit
    Deathbrand armor
    Ahzidal's Outfit
    Pretty much every Shout.

Even with the bonuses from wearing all the pieces of a specific armor set, there is nothing in the expansion that I have come across, that is more powerful than anything I had on from the main game of Skyrim, when I started Dragonborn.

What are other people's feelings about this
  • Feb 11, 2013 8:10 pm GMT
Well, I would say that it is leaning a bit more towards the magic category for Dragonborn whereas the Dawnguard seems to favor the stealth-based approach. The vanilla Skyrim feels outright warrior beneficial. Hearthsfire is pretty much... just for show.

As far as I'm concerned, Hearthfire = THE SIMS and doesn't even fit the Theme in Skyrim.
On top of that, Bethesda didn't bother explaining in the game itself with onscreen messages on how to start Hearthfire, and to this day I have never been able to start it.

And at this point I don't care to either..it's simply a waste. In fact when Bethesda cannot explain how to use the DLC or anything in it, it's useless because what good is adding something to a game, and not explaining anything to the player and makes the player more aggravated and turns them off from enjoying it. Bethesda's forums get filled with how do you start the DLC topics it's outrageous.

having another player tell you how to start something Bethesda is supposed to be explaining isn't the point and doesn't matter..You're not supposed to have to ask how to start a DLC...that is supposed to being explained to you in the game itself with onscreen messages by no one but Bethesda.

You do realize that in Hearthfire once you get a few levels you get a message, via courier, from the Jarl of Falkreath, which starts a quest line to build your first house? Seems pretty self explanatory to me.

And for the adoption thing, kids will run up to you and start dialog that ends with the option of adopting them. So, unless you completely avoid going into town, that's explained to.

Do people really need pop up instructions on how to play with Hearthfire? Really?

Oh right, because being a man (or woman) in a medieval world means you can't have a house, wife (or husband) or adopt kids.

I am level 57 constantly going into and out of a bunch of towns, and I have never ever had any courier that delivers any message from a Jarl come up to me, and I sure as hell have never ever encountered anything dealing with adoption.

So I don't know what you're talking about. And don't bother trying to blame me because I've never seen this in my game, or try to say something dumb as make sure i have Hearthfire checked off when I launch the game. Or call me a troll because this doesn't trigger. Maybe if Bethesda learned how to program their DLS correctly and not break the pattern and keep things consistent, and explained things in the game itself with onscreen messages like they were supposed to, then maybe I wouldn't have to create topics like this. So if you want to point fingers, the point them at Bethesda where the blame belongs.

Well you have pretty bad luck then my friend. I've run into the courier on each character I've made since installing Hearthfire. You can always just pick up the Unofficial Hearthfire Patch mod if you're having issues.

    About the Game

With this official add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up - from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter’s workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and sawn logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children.
    Key features:

Choose Your Land - Choose from property in the salt marshes of Hjaalmarch, the forests of Falkreath, or the vast tundra of The Pale. For the more ambitious landowner, purchase multiple plots and start building a real estate empire.

Anyone with half a brain would know to check with the Jarls and Stewards for lands to purchase just from that description before they even buy Hearthfire. The fact that you buy houses in vanilla Skyrim by talking to hold stewards should've meant that they'd be the first people you check with too.

That you need pop up messages to hold your hand and tell you how to do EVERYTHING is really sad.

And anyone with half a brain would see that you wouldn't do anything you said without any reason to do it. And anyone with half a brain would understand that not everyone has this trigger when ti's supposed to, so what you said is simply impossible if it's never triggered because you wouldn't know.

BTW stop using information you already know to try and justify Bethesda's piss poor programming methods.

Without any reason? So you're saying you buy a product without reading information on its page, then complain when you have absolutely no idea how it works?

Steam description alone already says you have to purchase land and even points you to three different areas. Common sense would dictate that you would go talk to people who might be able to sell land. You know, like a Jarl.

I didn't even know a courier gives you a letter to purchase land. I just... talked to people. Strange concept, I know.

Nothing you said is valid because you're not only making up excuses for Bethesda to not do their job, but you're trying to pass off the job Bethesda is supposed to do onto everyone else, then trying to justify yourself saying that.

What you need to understand is that the only people responsible for making sure how to a use a product and everything in it, IS THE COMPANY THAT MADE THE PRODUCT.

Doesn't matter what it says on Steams page or any other place you or anyone else says to look/read.

Speaking facts that gamers try to dismiss with preference, and then try to justify what they say by saying if another gamer doesn't know what they know then it's their fault.

lol.... even a monkey would know how to start Hearthfire. The Courier gives you a bloody note telling you where to go and who to see. If you can't figure it out then probably you shouldn't be playing video games.. except for maybe Spyro the magic Dragon or Disney Epic Mickey 2: The power of two.
