it's funny how people think they should get 40 hours of content from a $20 DLC pack..
This is what Dawnguard added ( I didn't type this btw because I'm busy and about to go and haloof with my supermodel girlfriend).
*List of things added*
Thisis a bad deal for DLC? Lol.... Go and look at what other developers hand out for DLC and then complain.
That's already been covered. It added two new factions, two new areas you will never ever return to, a new subpar transformation and perks to go with it and another subpar transformation that was already in the game, and mediocre armor and weapons. Crossbows are cool for about 2 minutes until you realize regular bows are far better, I've yet to see any armor it added that isn't garbage. Serena was the only thing the DLC added that was actually good, and then they ruined it by not letting you marry her.
From: OldDirtyCR | Posted: 2/1/2013 11:57:11 PM | #038two hours of enjoyment per dollar spent... So I should be getting 120 hours out of every new game I buy at $60... I guess 99.99% of games ever released have been a colossal waste of money.
Nope. When I buy a game 2 hours per dollar is the absolute MINIMUM I strive to get. I had over 280 hours in Skyrim when I bought Dawnguard. That's a good dollar to hour ratio. After buying Dawnguard I spent about 8 hours doing DLC quests and never touched it or anything it added again. That's not a good dollar to hour ratio.
I have to work for my money, so when I see comments like "It's only 12 dollars!" I know they are a 14 year old who's parents bought it for them. I paid about 20 dollars total for Dungeon Defenders and have over a thousand hours in it, that's a good ratio. I paid 12 dollars for Witcher 2 and have about 3 hours in it. That's not good. I paid 12 for Dawnguard and have about 8 in it, that's not good either.

The thing is, you need SOMETHING to back up you're argument. Bethesda sucks? Then WHY? Why they don't suck? Explain.
Well, for the mounted combat I'll do the sandwich argument. Mounted combat was patched in for free. Free is good if what's given is good. Not so much when what's free is a turd sandwich.
Bethesda is good for giving us the sandbox we love to play in. Even though they're not good with story, I like to think they did what they could. But the addiction part of skyrim that has us pulling levers for pellets and moving to other levers for more pellets, that's good video game stuff.
The product is for us to enjoy while our money is to make them rich. The arrangement is understood. But it's the treating us like idiots part that sucks. Oh, better pre-order the downloadable content before supplies run out. And you also get nothing special for the pre-order.
"Look fools, Dragon mounts! We came up with this great idea and It will be awesome."
As awesome as this was for Oblivion?

What was wrong with mounted combat? People whined that they had to get off their horse to kill random skeevers / bears. Then Bethesda added it in free of charge and people still whine?
Typical Elder Scrolls players....
- Slow weapon swing
- Atrocious horse controls
- Hitbox is IN FRONT instead of on the side of the horse
- Terrible damage
This isn't typical, it's totally justified.
Yeah I think the point is they didn't have to implement mounted combat in the first place.
"At least they DID take a steaming pile of poop on your desk, be grateful!"
That's the exact same logic blizz fanboys use when defending diablow 3.
"Be grateful" is even a diablow 3 born meme. You should check it out sometime so that you don't look foolish trying to use it in other arguments LOL.

Thank god you pointed out that the bethesda created mod is not supposed to be good.
Because it's not.

I think this is what they call "First world problems" when people actually get to the point of complaining and crying about "video games" and being handed free stuff in video games (which is completely optional to use). If you don't like the mounted combat then don't use it, for other people who do like it then they have the option to use it. Simple as that no need to start the water works and crying.
As for everything else which has been said, lets face it you're all wrong. Go and look at how DLC is handed by other devs/pubs now days and you see you're very very wrong.

Simple: the way mounted combat was implemented, you still have to get off your horse to kill random skeevers/bears. I had long ago concluded that Skyrim's horses are useless, so I wasn't all that interested in having mounted combat, but figured I'd give it a shot since it's there. Now I just wish they had decided to spend their time making something useful like horse armor instead.
It works fine for me. I use a controller so maybe it's just easier to control it or something? I have no idea how it handles with keyboard/mouse. I can kill random bears/skeevers/saberooths just fine and I'm still using unupgraded my Dawnbreaker and Nightingale Bow. I do agree about the Mount and Twirl thing lol, you do have to run circles to effectively kill enemies.
I think some people make it out to be worse than it is. My only complaint is lack of mage support. I would prefer to launch fireballs at skeevers.

We live to make the impossible possible. - Feb 2, 2013 12:39 pm GMTI know that in D&D for a mage to cast spells while riding a horse required a concentration check, because you're riding a horse and have to focus on that while also focusing on casting a spell. I suppose that could be their excuse for not allowing the player character to cast spells while riding.
Though I will agree that horse combat needs to be vastly improved before even I would consider it a positive addition. There's mods out there that make it useful but they require replacing some skills or are just a flat upgrade.
Honestly, the best way to put it about DLC is... it's either worth it to you, or it isn't. Dawnguard adds quite a bit for new characters, but if you're already in your later levels, its additions are relatively lame. And unless you use a mod that, say, adds crossbows to the level list, and to spawn in the inventories of some NPCs, you'll never see one unless you actually go to join Dawnguard.
(But using one of those mods is very interesting, because you have guards and some bandits using them. And believe me, crossbows deal significant amounts of damage to the player character, which has the side effect of increasing the difficulty somewhat -- without making it overbearing. Bandits with crossbows are actual genuine threats, even on Adept, and thus increase the sense of strategy because I have to dodge their shots while getting close enough to them to take them out first.)
However, if you aren't interested in anything Dawnguard has to offer, then it isn't going to be worth it for you. Same with Dragonborn.
I will say that Dragonborn seems like the superior DLC to Dawnguard, though, even though I'm not too interested in Dragonborn anymore. Though having an actual superboss that unlocks at level 81 seems like it could be interesting.

I'm not sure what the "nope" is directed at. You just confirmed what I asked. All new games should give you at LEAST 120 hours worth of playtime or they are a waste of money to you. This amazes me as the majority of games can't come anywhere near that, even when you throw in multiplayer.
Zomg, you work for your money? You must be the only one on gamefaqs to do that! I have to pay rent, car loan, gas, insurance every month, and I have college tuition every couple months I need to pay. I work retail so my money is a little bit above minimum wage, yet I still manage to pay everything and have money left to save. Why? Because I don't waste money on stupid crap like eating out 3 times a day or 30 dollars worth of alcohol every other night at the bar.
People drop $12 on food all the time, yet getting 8 hours of entertainment for $12 is heresy. 8 hours for DLC is extremely long.
Thousands of hours for $20 is completely unrealistic ratio that should not be expected. 3 hours in Witcher 2 is your fault, the game is much longer than that. You can avoid things you probably won't like by doing some research before hand.

This makes Dragonborn feel more focused and new compared to Dawnguard which is just a series of new caves and castles (and the Snow Elf thing) all over the same ol' world.
