If I recall correctly, there were already some mods out there that allowed us to craft arrows, dragonbone armour/weapons and who knows what else. Did the developers simply took what was popular and implemented it into the game along with the new content?

I'm just curious if this is what happened.

    Comments are appreciated,

    Thank you

The dragonbone weapons that the community came up with look quite different to the Bethesda ones.

Honestly, I think I prefer the Bethesda dragonbone longsword to the vast majority of mod ones.

I'm sure Bethesda has gotten ideas from the modding community from time to time, but I haven't ever seen any clear cut case of them straight up taking a mod and turning it into official game content, even with some tweaking. I mean, craftable arrows and dragon weapons should have been something that was in the game in the first place, so maybe they had it planned out already, maybe they didn't. You'd probably have to work for Bethesda to be sure whether it was something they had planned or if they got the idea from player mods. I don't think there's anyone here that could answer your question with any amount of certainty.

Thanks for the replies. Besides being curious I just had to ask since I know one company, Blizzard, have taken World of Warcraft, a game with who knows how many community addons, and over time put in a lot of in-game features similar to said addons. I personally really like this as it means less updating of said addons on my end. If Bethesda have done something similar I'll be glad for the same reasons.

Bethesda legally could take anything made with the Creation Kit and copy pasta it right into a DLC. However they would not do that. Getting ideas from popular mods, which they do from time to time, I believe is a completely legitimate thing to do on their part.

Bethesda taking ideas from modders is a great thing imo, shows that they actually listen what the community wants, offer them as an official content making them available even on the consoles and if I were a modder, I'd be bursting with pride if Bethesda would add something in the game in a patch that I invented in the first place.

What about the wizard's tower in Oblivion? Wasn't that a mod first?

No. The mod built upon the official add on.
