- Jan 28, 2013 11:53 am GMTI need to stop, I've never even been to High Hrothgar, and probably done the same 20 starter quests countless times.. The furthest I've ever been in any guild is the thieves guild where you go to the brewery place outside Whiterun. Highest level ever attained was 19
Every character I make it's "Ok no more restarting, just play the f***ing game"..and yep, I still restart
Had game since release, do I have a problem? :[

I only move when I have a decent investment in one, as to not feel underpowered.

Playing FPS: I don't always hit the reload button, but when I do there's 10 enemies in my face. - Jan 28, 2013 12:23 pm GMTMods require constant restart (so yes, I was constantly restarting), which is why I've held off playing the game for what feels like over a year -- and now Dragonborn will make me play it without restarting again!

- Jan 28, 2013 12:31 pm GMTYes and no.
Yes, I've made, played, and deleted hundreds of characters and am constantly making new ones. On the other hand, no, I do still have one primary character that I've stuck with for a very long time and still consistently play.
I've had a nasty case of altoholism for a long time. One day I'll play as a Khajiit conjurer/archer hybrid. The next I'll want to be a redguard sword and shield warrior. The next day I'll want to be a breton battlemage. Then the next day I'll want to be an argonian assassin. Then a nord illusionist/alchemist. Then maybe one day I'll try to make a character that never participates in combat, and only crafts and sells his crafts, traveling with mercenaries to do all of the combat when carriages don't suffice. Then the next day I'll make an imperial thief. Then later on I'll make an orc that dual-wields conjured swords. Then maybe later I'll make a dunmer hand-to-hand fighter.
But I always go back to my nord... I don't even know how to describe him at this point.

Are you suggesting that moon should get off his ass and write some stories? He's like the Stephen King of gamefaqs. - Sorbz - Jan 28, 2013 12:33 pm GMT..I've just done it again
RIP level 7 Redguard, we barely knew ye

If you believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, have accepted him as your lord and savior, and are 100% proud of it, put this in your sig. - Jan 28, 2013 12:37 pm GMTI did the same thing. Never made it past/to High Hrothgar or whatever. Made about 5 different characters and just explored and whatnot. Going to start an Argonian tonight. Still debating on a final build but I am thinking it will be an archer of some sort. MAYBE a mace and shield type...I dunno lol.

Yeah my problem is I always want to be something else. If I'm a mage I want Heavy Armor + 2H sword, if I'm a Heavy armor wearer I want light armor + dagger and bow, if I'm a thief I want to be a mage...
bah, fml and fm strange condition

"PC's are stupid. There's basically nothing PC can do that an Xbox can't." - GorillaOnRoof - Jan 28, 2013 12:47 pm GMTI know what you mean. Right now I want to play a Breton who is decent in stealth, bows and one-handed with shield, with supportive spells. I can foresee a shortage of perk points.
But I think I can help here. I just got this mod:
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/27531
It lets you convert dragon souls into perks (and other bonuses). This way you can keep killing dragons and use their soul to diversify your character's abilities.

Do you not like the game? It sounds like whatever you try can't hold your attention, either due to a problem on your part, or because the game is too boring. Have you tried any the alternate start mods? Might help.

"Eat all your school, stay in milk, drink your teeth, don't do sleep and get eight hours of drug." Mr.T - Jan 28, 2013 1:48 pm GMTIt took me 8 tries before I finally completed the MQ and got a character to go to level 50, not because I didn't like the game, but because the early to mid-game is the best part, IMO. Once my characters get to the point where they're rolling over all their enemies, I get the urge to start another one!

Yeah I tried that, then my OCD kicks in and I can not allow myself to have an all-rounder :[

I love the game, like really love it. Despite me hardly getting anywhere it's probably in my top 5 "most hours spent on" games..
I just need to completely ignore new mods for the time being and play the damn game to the end with what I've got.

If the original KotOR and World of Warcraft had an abortion it would look something like this. mikejolik on SWTOR - Jan 28, 2013 2:20 pm GMTI have as well. I have put 300+ hours into Oblivion and still have not ever completed the main questline. I have completed all guild quests, DLC, Deadric, etc, but never the main.
With Skyrim I have started quite a few, but I think it is because I keep getting bored after getting to around level 20-25 and I end up switching to another game and when I come back I just can't pick up where I left off. I have to start a new character. I am just now starting to get back into it and am once again starting a new character. I haven't purchased Dragonborn DLC yet, but I have purchased the other 2. I am waiting on the newest one for the mods I use to update and allow me to play with my mods.
I think for me with Skyrim I have a hard time getting past the stereotype in my mind that the Dragonborn has to be a male Nord. Where I would much rather play a female Nord, Imperial, Breton, or Wood Elf Thief/Sneak/Assassin/Archer character, and that type just doesn't suit the Dragonborn image I have. However I think I have found a way in my mind to get past that issue with my most recent character. So hopefully I will stick with the game this time and play through the Imperial side of the war, I've done the Stormcloak side before, and the main quest, and all the others. Hopefully around level 25-30 the mods I use will be updated and I can then get the new DLC on a sale maybe and be ready for that around halfway through my game.
I will say that I did have this problem with Neverwinter Nights 2. I could never get further than halfway through Chapter 2, because I kept making new characters. I wanted to try something different, a different weapon set, perks, character type, etc. It drove me nuts, and eventually I quit altogether because I couldn't bring myself to play through the same part of the game anymore. - Jan 28, 2013 2:30 pm GMTStrategyWikiped posted...

Wait, what?
I install mods all the time, and only one of them have required a restart of my file. Only a few huge mods like SkyRE require restarts. Most can be installed and uninstalled with no issue at all. So what mods are you installing that require all these constant restarts?
@TC
What is the main reason for you restarting? Is it because you want a character that is different looking? You can use "showracemenu" in the console or go to Riften to change your face in game if that's the case...
I guess I just don't understand the need to restart when you are level 7. You've barely gained any perks so it's not like you are forced to stay on any given perk path. I've switched between specializations as my character has progressed and have had no issue at all..
World of Warcraft's classes all play differently so creating Alts is only natural. But I just don't understand how it can get to that point in this game. - Jan 28, 2013 3:03 pm GMTthebladeofwoe posted...

"PC's are stupid. There's basically nothing PC can do that an Xbox can't." - GorillaOnRoof - Jan 28, 2013 3:45 pm GMTI have this problem but not nearly as bad.
For instance, I have about 6 characters altogether. I had the game since release but have yet to complete the main storyline. I just explore so much that I lose track of everything else and end up with 90+ hours just doing the side quests and guild quests. Then in the back of mind I'm thinking of starting over with a new playstyle and character. I'd say I quit on average around level 40ish.
Right now I am settling on 2 last playthroughs. First I want my current character to finish the main questline and dawnguard and mop up all the achievements. Then I'll take a break and play some games on my PS3 or other PC games until the last of the official DLC is released by Bethesda. Then my final character I'll start when all the official DLC is released.
