Great Game--Minor Inconveniences Detract

User Rating: 7 | The Elder Scrolls Online PC

Let's get this straight from the beginning: I am nearly 75 years old; I am a gramma; and I thoroughly enjoy RPGs. Since I first played Oblivion, I have been a fan of The Elder Scrolls and of Bethesda games. I looked forward with great anticipation to the arrival of Elder Scrolls online. It lived up to my expectations with a few exceptions. However, the exceptions have brought my score/rating for the game down more than I would have liked.

In Oblivion, Morrowind, Skyrim...there were things I could adjust to make the game more fun for a person of my age and ineptitude. For example, I could set the games so they were easy to play. Not that I never kicked the bucket in a fight at that "easy" level. I died just often enough to make it interesting--and even enough to make me cuss a bit.

In Elder Scrolls Online, there is no "little, old lady setting." I gotta play at the same level as the younger folk, so I die...and I die...and I die...and I die...well, you get the picture. I have two characters, one a Breton, who has struggled to reach level 19, and a second character, an Orc Sorcerer, who is a bit more fun to play, since I managed to create a stronger character. The Orc is presently at level 7...trying to do things she seems unable to do.

I've heard from some other players that things will be easier once I reach...say...level 40. Really? The question then becomes not a question about my build or the quality of the character or the skills...but rather, will I live that long?

In previous games, I found money fairly easy to come by. In ESO, I am always broke and seldom have enough money to purchase things I really need to make the game more enjoyable. 14,000 gold for a horse? Really? I might have 14 gold... but where the heck do I come by 14,000?

In previous games, I could manage everything alone. Not everyone wants to play with other people. But I seem unable to complete some of my own quests without waiting for someone else to come along...and if I get lucky, they will take pity on me and let me tag along...or even form a small, temporary group.

As to lighting the four ancient braziers, so I can finish that quest. Give it up! Really! I can't move fast enough to get all four lit at once.

I escorted a villager to light signal fires. Said villager helped me whup on some werewolves and such. "Wow!" thought my character, "I got this quest!" But when the signal fires were all lit the stoopid villager raced away, leaving me alone to face Fu Manchu...naw...that's not his name. JK I'm talking about Faochu the Reborn or whatever his name is. I have tried probably 5 times--yup, alt least 5--to whup on that darn werewolf boss...and can't make it happen.

What I am trying to say here is that I wish ESO were more playable and without so much death and dying on my part--like the previous games were. If Bethesda could do it before, surely they can do it again.

Meanwhile, I shall continue to die...and die...and die again. And if the real me dies before I can accomplish much? Well...I can always leave the game to my grandson in Post Falls.
