@fourclawrider Tera and GW2 come close to what you are talking about...Mostly Tera because GW2 still has some lock on abilities shots like arrows and pistols.
Holy shit-- they've already got the little title symbol thingy built. They're practically done.
it is just amazing how much was announced about the game in this anouncement trailer.
@ fourclawrider
Well mesmer in guild wars could punish ppl who spammed skills on recharge, or/and interrupt combos.
@ alpha_unit97 i totally agree
hotbar combat in MMO's requires nearly no skill at all...all you have to do is figure out the most damage/time effective way of queing your attacks and than repeat that every single fight. Also there's no real aiming with arrows or melee, al you have to do is click your target, and hitting or missing is a random factor out of your control
all this leads to formulaic, predetermined but most of all lame, static and unexciting combat and EVERY MMO is like that...
so yes it would be very nice for a change to see a MMO with realtime combat where you miss an arrow or a swordslash because you actually missed and not because the game says so, or vice versa if your good you put your skill to use and actively dodge other players swings/arrows
Why it is just another chapter and does not mean that they will stop making other games in the series.
I kind of liked the elder scrolls as a first person, completely different, original experience. This might be too much of a change for me...
Something I fail to understand is why they had to make the combat system with a "standard mmo hot bar", in other words they made it turn based like WoW and every other mmo these days, if they really tried, they could have made a real-time combat system (it doesn't have to be just like other ES games), i don't know if anyone remembers the Fable 1 combat system, but that would have been absolutely perfect in an mmo..
"Oh my God this game is so horrible even though it hasn't come out yet. I hate Bethesda."
@Stabba_The_Kutt there's no reason to dismiss this game out of hand. Maybe it'll be really good. Lol at least wait until we've seen a gameplay trailer.
It will be intersting on how this game plays out. I loved that the game was single player...got mixed feelings on this one.
I guess Bethesda realized that with their reputation and proven quality of games, they have everything they need to start making world of warcraft money. This will mark the official end of my Elder Scrolls patronage.
F this! The trailer already ruined my experience. What do you mean by "Salvation doesn`t come from one hero but many..." The thing about the Elder Scrolls games is that you are the all mighty motherfucker and you are unique. I don`t like the direction the series is going with these MMORPG.
Seems like it's going to be pretty good. I wonder how Bethesda is going to manage to make it run and all though, especially whilst trying to maintain the amount of detail and such that the worlds they create are so well known for.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
my godddddddddd it is great
i love skyrim
skyrim is best
and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
onlineeeeeeeeeeee
i like that
but may mason and freemason
What imperial throne empty? I thought the dragonborn was to be the new emperor?!
Soo...... Alduin and Mehrunes Dagon band together to annoy( or terrorize) every man living on Tamriel now........ or something like that??
It's wrong to assume it will be good; Most MMO's are derivative garbage, even when the studio has a solid track record of RPG's. It IS however ok to be excited, although I would temper your expectations!
Nice. Do want to see more. Bethesda are pretty good and throwing teasers with very little in it.
Fun Fact;
.
"Ouruoboros";
A trinket/ring/sigil consisting of a snake eating its own tail is the sign of a VERY high ranking mason/esoteric master/alchemist
It symbolises time/ eternity/ cyclic nature/ "all is one"/ self sustained eternal balance/ (and thus immortality);
.
The interesting fact is that it comes up all over the world in places seemingly unrelated making it suspect for an outside source/revelation;
.
ancient Americas(Quetzalcoatl)/ancient Scandinavia;nords- child of Loki
.
/ Egypt-book of the Netherworld/ India/ China, Japan /Europe15th.cn.(alchemy)

all this is especially prized in the Theosophical society

I find it interesting to say the least that they made it a logo for their new massive game, and the whole trailer is basically showcasing it in great deatail
I would like to hope they keep the gameplay the same as the skyrim and backwards. making it use an MMORPG formula would lose the appeal to me.
They all have the same goal, to force players to suffer other players in THEIR world running around with nametags flying abouve their heads, no emphasis on story and all emphasis on raid's, pvp and guilds. this is the description of ALL MMO's, and we have more than enough of those. TRUE RPG's are about playing a game when you want, where you want and how you want, but by making it an MMO, they are taking away the liberty of a singleplayer experience. It's all most "communist" to say that the game world belongs to everyone, and not each individual. The individual gamer will have no real power over the game, because now it belongs to everyone. CRAP.
I... don't know how to feel about this. It sounds like a cool idea, and Bethesda could pull off an MMO if they wanted to. But the Elder Scrolls has always been a series of exploration and adventure, not bosses and loot. Bethesda can try to make this MMO as unique as possible, but the fact is that where there are players sharing a world, there is competition. The heavy emphasis on loot and competitive progression that hits every MMO in the market (not necessarily raid progression, but progression nonetheless) will overtake everything that the Elder Scrolls stands for, especially immersion. I'm not discrediting this yet since all we have is a teaser, but if the past is any indication, than this is not the ideal direction for the Elder Scrolls to take.
They should make a single player game with a multiplayer option ! Elder Scrolls is a great game to play with friends !
I look forward to this! I just hope they keep the gameplay and open world and I will be happy.
Wonder if items can be picked up and placed anywhere like the last several ES games. That would be great.
"Salvation cannot come from one... but from many" I'll take the invitation...

If you think they will stop making singleplayer RPG's anytime soon, then you aren't doing your math.... SKYRIM has sold more that 10 million copies world wide. SKYRIM is living proof, that there is still a huge market for singleplayer games. Every day there are hundreds of MMO's being hurled out of some developers darkest thoughts, so there is no need for any more MMO's, that market is over satchurated. This game will most likely end up like SWTOR. In other words, it will be a WoW game in Tamriel instead of Asaroth...
This is the MMO. If you don't want to play with others, don't play it. Simple. I speculate that Bethesda Game Studios will continue to develop single player games into the forseeable future (alternating with Fallout and perhaps another unknown title). However, for an MMO it looks very promising. And I disagree, single player games will always have a place, for a multitude of reasons (though may not be as dominant as in the past).
