User Rating: 9.9 | The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion X360
i've been a long time fan of the elder scrolls since the first game 'arena' daggerfall was okay but nothing special but the game morrowind ,when given the goty edition extras of solstheim and the capitol made it one of the largest games ive ever played, forget san andreas that was mutch smaller, in fact after 3 years of playing i still havent finished the game 100%, so needless to say when i saw the first screenshots of oblivion i couldnt yell loud enough that may favourite series was back.

so heres the review of oblivion.

the game begins in a very familiar place for elder scrolls veterans, the dungeons of the cyrdoil capitol city, your incarceration is cut short by the arrival of the emporer and two of his blade knights. seems you were in the right place at the right time, what follows is a goblin filled dungeon trawl just like the opening of the first game in the series, and soon enough the emporer dies, just like he fortold he would, bear in mind this is the same emporer from the first game, and he dies with the following words left behind "Find Him and close shut the jaws...of oblivion".

you are gifted with his amulet of kings and from there on out the world is yuors to do with as you wish.

granted this game is smaller than morrowind, in fact it takes a quater fo the time to circle cryodil as it does vardenfell in its predecessor, but its more compact but this is what makes many improvements over morrowind.

morrowinds only fault was it was TOO open ended with very little other than "head south" to guide you in the leterally thousands of quests available to you.

while the quests are there that have no story relevance there mutch more concise and less "trek across the world twice" missions from morrowind that took ages to complete even if you encountered no monsters, so you can finish the game quick or take time to do quests but its still mutch less complicated with the new systems.

you cna choose which quest is your active quest and you get markers on your map and compas to help you out as you go, this was a nice touch as i had amny a time in morrowind were id head off but encounter adeadric ruin or something that took so long to loot that i forgot where i was headed.

as is the case with this review right now, so back to gameplay.

the controls are tha same as morrowind but mutch more fluid and easy to control with hotkey buttons on the d pad which save trawling through endless menuse and even this feels mutch more concise and stream lined than morrowind and its all the beter for it.

the magic is easier to use, mutch more so, and as your skills improve so does the amount of moves you can perform, no longer is it condemned style swipe up or swipe left combat, it really does feel like a fps lord of the rings in some larger battles and its freakin' awesome to say the least.

graphics wise this is THE most beatiful game in existence at the time i write this and its literally awe inspireing at points where you just have to stop and stare for miles at the sheer gandure of bethesdas work they but into this game.

sound wise its not as inspiring and boomingly middle earth-ey as morrowind and it suffers a little for this as music seems to let this down a little, in fact in the oblivion areas there isnt any, so minus a point for that, easily the worst part of the game, but resident evil had worse and thats another of the worlds best games so i guess it doesnt matter.

value wise it lasts ages as theres so many sub quests to do and items to find as you traverse cyrodil in search of the emporers heir.

so overall its a great game but the truth is oblivion, like its predecessor, is what YOU make of it.

i read one review were a guy said he left the jail to merely walk for an hour and fight a bear.

yet i myself left and entered some romanesque looksing ruins and fought zombies ,dodged booby traps and got some cool swag.

so the experience is diferent for eveyone, so heres my view, buy this game as it is the closest thing to starring in your own fantasy novel you'll get.

buy it simply becuase its one of the best 360 games out there right nwo and i think it will be a while till its topped.

.....at least till the elder scrolls V comes out....
