Awful frustrating combat system really lets the game down. If you don't mind it, consider this a 8.5, if you do, 6-7

Alright, as anyone will tell you, morrowind is the third episode of the elder scrolls serie. Like its predecessors, it can be described as a sandbox RPG. Although there is a fairly lenghty main quest, the player can just ignore it and explore and interact with the game world however he likes.
He can ofc complete quests, explore dungeons and the outside world, fight various monsters, or the population if he wants to.

The action takes place in the continent of Morrowind, more precisely the Island of Vardenfell, home of the dark elves. The player is brought to the Islan as a prisonner, then released and charged to deliver a mysterious message...

You can play various races: Different sorts of humans, elves, and also Khaajit (cat people), Orcs, and Argonians (lizardmen, my fav), all of them have certain advantages and drawbacks

You can also customize your class in a lot of ways, deciding which will be your main skills and abilities.
So yeah, like in all elder scrolls the customization is pretty good.

The Island of Vardenfell is pretty huge, so those who like exploring and discovering new locations will pobably enjoy this, if they aren't bothered by the slow walk speed...

...Or the very frequent fights... because like in all rpg there are fights... and the combat system is honestly, kind of... boring. Basicly, assuming you are fighting the ennemy upclose and personnal, you have to mash the mouse button to attack as fast as possible, while strafing around the opponent to dodge some blows. The game tries to vary things a bit by letting you use different slashes depending on your movement, but thi doesn't improve the things at all. Even the endurance bar doesnt brong much depth or fun in it.
So you mash mouse and strafe until the opponent is kind enough to die. If they are a tad bit resistant, it can take a while, because even with fairly high skill in weapons you will miss quite a few times, and you don't necessarily do much damage.

Imagine diablo 2, forcing you to click for every single blow (i think you can at least hold down the mouse to auto attack), and to strafe around all ennemies even the basic ones and with low damage per hit, and wthoutthe cool abilities...it gets tiresome very fast.
It wouldn't be so bad if there weren't so many ennemies scattered accros the map. Espacially those big bird things. Vardenfel is infested with those things. They spot you from a mile away, and even though they stan no chance, they attack you... well after they sort out their pathing.
They have a big problem lowering their altitude so you need to keep walking to make them slowly come down to you, otherwise they hover in place.
Then you have also plenty of rats also content to come at you.

I swear, had they automatized the attacks or done some minor tweaks, it would be ok. But as it stands, they have the worst combat system I've ever seen in a RPG ( i playd quite a few) and way too many ennemies that makes those awful fights too present.

There is worse... some weapons have special attributes, like they burn, they poison... some of them paralyse you... or drain your endurance, which basicly breaks the combat. You can asily get paralyzed for 20 sec wit one blow, and then you are an easy target so you are paralyse-locked. Same for endurance. No endurance, you can't fight, you cant run, gg, unless you stocked up on potions. Broken on both sides.

Also, the ennemies are all allied with each other. Thugs, animals and all other ennemies never fight each other, you are their only focus.

Plus the difficulty is irregulr and notvery believable...let me explain. My character, with time became able to defeat demons and daedras, quite powerful ennemies, who can easily kill most mortals... So here I am checking out the lad in the bloodmoon xtension. Wolves and bears are quite tougher than you would expct, but i can dispatch them. Then i go to invesigate a cave where there is contraband. And well, the smugglers turn out to be better equipped than any guard i've seen, heavy armor, paralysing weapons, and they make the demons look like a joke.
Boom, kill me in 4 atacks, paralyse, take almot no damage... great. It's frustrating as hell. Kind of similar to how you can kill drgons in skyrim, then giants one shot you, but its worst here.

It pretty much forces you to grind level at some point to progress

Which brings me to a comprison with skyrim. Skyrm combat is fairly simple, and not too deep, but It's light year better, even though skyrim prbably isn't as deep as Morrowind, and tend to give you too much things too easily.
Morrowind is deeper, but much more frustrating than skyrim. And not because i play wrong, i play right, it's still frustrating.

One more issue is he inventory system, quite messy, and the merchants. It makes sese that a library wn't buy armor, but for some stuff it's incredibly hard to find someone who'l buy it and/or tha person hs very limited money.
So here I am with 20 precious book that i ca't sell becaue libraries have very limited money, weapons and artifacts worth 20000 but the smith has at most 1500 gold... :S

Ultimately i had enough with all this... maybe other people arent bothered y thoe things, but I am.
Combat are an important part of RPG. I don't really like easy games, but i'll take easy over needlessly frustating
