A perfect blend of mysticism, gameplay, and classic RPG elements.

User Rating: 9.5 | The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition (Wide Box) PC
Morrowind is the third installment of Bethesda's flagship Elder Scroll's series. This version takes place in the dark elf homeland, Morrowind.

The graphics, while dated, are actually very pretty in their own way. You won't find lush jungles or sandy beaches, the geography of Vvanderfell is full of craggy mountainsides and damp swamps. The interior environments are a little dull, however this does not detract from the mystical ambiance of the dark elf homeland.

The story begins with you being a prisoner on a ship, you don't know why you are there, but the emperor has sent you to morrowind for a reason. After you create your character through the deep creation system you set out to meet your accomplice who tells you of the recent happenings in morrowind. Dagoth Ur, an evil demi-god, has returned from his sleep cast upon him by Nerevar, a folkloric hero to the dark elves. Your character was believed to be his incarnation so you are sent to fulfill the prophecy and defeat Dagoth Ur. There are a lot of intricacies to this story that makes it a very enjoyable experience.

Combat focuses around magic, stealth, and combat. However, i found it enjoyable to dabble in all three elements. There is also a robust alchemy system and various other skills to level up as you play. All combat takes place in real time, setting it apart from traditional turn-based RPG games.

Morwwind itself is also very large and has a wealth of caves and old temples to explore.

The expansion packs included are both solid and offer extended gameplay past the main quest and introduce a plethora of new items.

What really extends the gameplay of morrowind is the player created content. the construction set allows you to code and test your own content and share them with others. This extends the replay value greatly.

In conclusion, Morrowind is easily one of the best RPGs ever made. While some might not enjoy it as much as others, it is truly a magnificent experience.
