Unknown gem

User Rating: 8 | The Blackwell Bundle PC
The Blackwell Legacy was a game that caught my interest by watching someone doing a let's play of it on You Tube. It is an old-school point and click adventure. Both graphically and mechanicly. This is probably not something that would appeal to any youngsters of today, but to us gamers who started up in the early 90's this is a welcomed nostalgic flashback.
Now this could just be an barely "ok" game - only for the most hardcore old-school adventure freaks. But this game deserves more. It may not look impressive, but it has an interesting story, characters and good enough voice-work.

Now I talk about this as one game, but it is in fact 3 different ones - Blackwell Legacy (2006), Blackwell Unbound (2007) and Blackwell Convergence (2009). Developed by Wadjet Eye Games, whom I never heard of before I played these.
But now when I'm reviewing the triology bundle I'm gonna talk of them as one game - with 3 chapters - instead.
Each one is rather short and an experienced gamer would likely complete them all in under 10 hours. The difficulty is not the highest either, though I managed to get stuck a couple of times. That mostly because I did not talk enough to different NPC's. The way to advance in this game is mainly based on talking to people to get clues on what to do next.

In part one - Legacy - you play as Rosangela Blackwell, writer of a magazine and with an fairly whiny attitude. Her life will soon change from dark grey realism to something completely different when she suddenly meet Joey. Who is dead. She will have a hard time to come to terms with her new abilities as a medium. But soon this duo will get to work on seeking out ghosts all over New York City - where all part of the game takes place btw.

For part two - Unbound - we go back in time. It has Rosangelas auntie, Lauren, as the main protagonist. She too has the rather unpleasant task as to be doomed with spending her whole life with dead Joey barking at her heels. It seems the talent runs in the family.

Part three - Convergence - has us back in modern times and with Rosangela. This 3rd part will have a lot of references to what happened in both part one and two, witch is nice. Some old characters will appear again and this part will mostly conclude everything that happened so far.
Of course I mean since it is a trilogy and this is the last part. But it is apparently a fourth installment on its way. So Rosangelas and Joeys tale seems not yet to be finished.

An interesting thing of note is that most places and many characters in this game is real. You can seek out more info on them by searching around internet. Also there is "extra stuff" unlocked when you finish each game - be sure to check that out too.

Well I have told you about the main plot for the game, but not much of rest of the story and the whole bunch of characters. You have to check that out yourselves. If you are into these kind of games you should not hesitate to get your hands on this little overlooked gem.
And it will not cost you much either, if you are concerned with that - under 20 bucks for the three of them.
Or at least try one of the demos.
