One of the few...

User Rating: 9.5 | The Black Mirror PC
I played this game in 2011, yet Gamespot reviewed it when it was released with a terrible rating (5.5). Objectively It is worth at least 8.0. My rating has the aim to increase its overall score.
This game is one of the few with these elements that made games great in the 90's like Beast Within and Harvester. It has a majestic atmosphere, the voice acting is wonderful and the script unparalleled. It has story twists, blood, black magic and each enigmatic character is put brilliantly on a nice played role.
You play as Samuel Gordon, the grandson of William Gordon.
When William dies you decide to investigate on the circumstances of his death. In the way you unravel mysteries and you finally learn who you are - for real...
Even today I find the BM graphics very good designed. It is the kind of graphics that you cannot easily find unconvincing. These ones are illustrated after 3D models.
Sound wise the game is rich. All dialogs are perfect and the actors are of the elite level. Each item has different sound effects for when picked, selected, unselected, used and the different comments Samuel makes.
The only downsides that are worth noting is the lack of hotspot highlighting, thus the player is bound to lots of pixel hunting. Another one is somekind of a bug when ALT+TABing the game won't restore in WIN7 that I played.
All these said I must confess that I find the game a must for any individual appreciating quality either in an adventure game, a mystery movie or a novel.
