Henry Stauf's house of horrors brings about an early and most immersive cinematic gaming experience that I will not forget.

The setting for this game is rather antique which gives it a classic appeal, then with the addition of repeatable and thought provoking puzzles throughout which unlock more of the chilling events to be retold.

With the integration of real video overlays and advanced 3D modelling for that period, there is a real sense of being in the haunted mansion; which is made even more intense through the audio, storyline, and sense of achievement for each puzzle completed.

The evil storyline just gives you the creeps, and parts of the storyline have cackles and screams that would send most people running from the real thing.

For most of the story you play from the first person view of Ego (a young boy); the 7th guest. As such you were not initially invited to this “Donner Party” murderous plot, but are quickly and addictively wrangled into the mystery of Stauf with his intangible reach.

To unlock your fate and each cinematic achievement there are a number of puzzles left by this old man for you to solve throughout a haunted mansion.

Some are very hard, and others just a matter of general knowledge, but oh so worth the effort with suspense driving you on with eager anticipation.

The cinematic game introduces you with a prologue of six guests being invited to stay the night in at mansion Stauf. Narration given by the old man himself that really chills you with its grating tone.

(If you enjoy this game as much as I did see if you can get a copy of the 11th Hour; the sequel which may be found on eBay or second hand as it is a rather old game now.)
