No-frills poker with decent AI... that CHEATS.

This is no-frill Texas Hold'Em poker, with a passable presentation and little to no options. You can alter limits and blinds, but the single player experience is horrible in both sit-down and tournament modes.

One of my biggest complaints is that the game is slow. There is no option to adjust AI speed. When you are actively involved in a hand, the pace is OK. When you have folded out, and the 7 other AI opponents take forever to do anything... ugh! You can fold on a bad deal and wait 2 minutes for the AI to slug it out to the river. If I wanted to WATCH poker, I'd turn on the TV. I want to PLAY. A simple button option to speed up play when held down would have saved me a lot of frustrations.

On top of slow gameplay, there is the hated AI. Unlike others, I have had decent experiences with it as far as bluffs, betting and strategy go. My problem is that it CHEATS! Yes, cheats! You will be in awe when you play enough hands to the river (which I have done strictly to see what they had), only to see every AI opponent having been dealt Ace/King (the most popular form of BS), pocket aces, high pairs and suited face cards. It's not just random luck, it is insidious. Try playing the game conservatively, and only going in on those same deals. You will wait 15-20 minutes for something decent and you'll only ever see that King/Ace once every few hours. But if you call to the river, you'll see them sprouting like daisies out of the AI arses. Trsut me, it's not just one or two hours of bad luck. This is all the time every day since I started.

Finally, there is no save game data for single player mode. So if you want to reset your stats or bankroll (to a slim 2K), you're screwed. This makes perfect sense in multiplayer, but considering the rampant AI BS in single modes, it's just stupid.

If you want simple poker with no options and don't mind honly-tonk music and computer opponents who stack the deck in their own favor (literally), this is a fair distraction.
If you want solid, deep, rich poker with fair play and any degree of excitement, look somewhere else because Texas Hold'Em Poker stinks.
