Trying to slot falling blocks together in order to score 'rows' while also creeping nearer and uncomfortably nearer to the dreaded 'top of the screen' fail point - who can call themselves a gamer and not know the chills and thrills of the Russian thumb-training super-game?

Yes, it may be mind-numbingly simple, but there is nothing about it to stop any man, woman or child from wasting hours and hours of their life away while pushing themselves to faster and faster levels. It should get boring at some point, but it just doesn't. That's why it's a True Classic.

It is also quite possible that the highest score ever achieved in this game was done by a gentle mother or grandmother who doesn't like to brag about such things. Its enthralling and honest gameplay is the basis of its mass-appeal.

Tetris deserves the infamy it has achieved purely for being a fine example of how simple games can be great games, just like Ping Pong and PacMan.
