Do yourself a favor and find an old copy of the original Gameboy Tetris. This game is a disgrace to the Tetris name. I rented it from my work for fifty cents and I should have bought that shiny red gumball instead. I have to say that the original version of Tetris that came with the first Gameboy system is the best version aside from the rare Tengen version for the NES. Something about it was perfect, maybe the speed at which the pieces fell, or maybe some sort of cosmic balance from alien technology. It's graphics were simple but the gameplay was perhaps the most addicting ever. Any changes to this formula, in my opinion, could only be for the worse. Now comes Tetris Worlds, missing the zen-like feel, and set up so babies can win. The first thing I noticed was a ghost block at the bottom which lines up your pieces. I turned the option off immediately but was outraged of its inclusion. This feature detracts from the whole experience of self progression, which is what makes playing Tetris satisfying in the first place. Included now are many different modes of gameplay, but after a giving them a brief try, I just wanted to play some real Tetris. The graphics are also bad, as if they went overboard to compensate for not evolving this series gameplay into something better. I hate the colors and the look of the blocks. When a line is filled it erupts the blocks and they fall off the screen, which becomes kind of annoying after a while. And the backgrounds? Quite possibly the most stupid I have ever seen with lame animals walking around and distracting you from the game. What the hell are these people thinking! I would have been more than happy if they packaged the original Tetris into a compact GBA cartridge ( so I don't have 2 inches of grey plastic poking out of my GBA SP ) and given it some color, and left everything including the music the same.
