Quests or mainly arena pvp?

Hi everyone,

Game looks nice by the vids so far, was however wondering, most of the vids I saw was mainly arena or dungeon based pvp, is there any outworld questing etc? Stuff like that hehe

Thanks!

This game obviously has quest I took vacation for this game well not really but I heard questing was boring after a while.

But I don't have the game in hand yet cause gamestop isn't open just yet.

There's an entire open world full of quests. You can actually fairly easily get 1-60 (max) by just following quests. Story quests even have you go through every instance to make 'em more rewarding as well. Arena PVP (Battlegrounds) is due this summer AFAIR, right now all you can do is duel anyone, anywhere, or play a PVP server and PK people in fields. 'course that doesn't matter too much since everyone is still busy levelling and gearing up FOR batlegrounds and vanarchy. Oh and you can declare GVG battles and create your own deathmatches too, which is pretty awesome.

There's questing, and it's fairly typical mmo-faire (I don't know why people expect any different - this is an mmo after all). However, I will add that the questing is fairly engaging, along with a gorgeous world, interesting and engaging fight mechanics, and easy grouping that make the whole thing quite enjoyable. I'm actually just typing this whilst flying from the capital city after doing some crafting to get back into some questing again... can't wait :D

The one thing that imo makes this game's questing better than most MMOs is the beautiful world the quests make you explore. I read all the quests and they're not great but some are humorous and its better than clicking through everything and not knowing why you're doing something. I enjoy the questing. I enjoy dungeons more (open world and instanced, I love em, really well done).

I tried really hard to get into the story, but i just couldn't. I ended up just skipping all the text for the "zone" quests and just ran thru them as fast as i could. 98% of the quests are kill quests, ex" Kill 10 normal monsters, and 20 of the minions that spawn with the normal monster" the other 2% is escort (dear god these are bad) and gather quests. don't get me wrong tho, i enjoy the game play, but it leaves alot to be desired. After reading the WoW novels i was able to get back into WoW awhile back and actually enjoy reading the quests. Maybe someday i will be able to do the same for Tera

Playing an MMO for the story is like reading a book for the combat system.

It just doesn't make any god damn sense.

People always complain about escort and fetch quests, i'm damn glad Tera focuses on killing stuff. But of course, it still has the occasional variation, and of course instances are all different and fun.

A lot of people played FFXI for the story. FFXIV's story is pretty great too and very well presented in hi def graphics and fully voiced cutscenes. Just because past MMOs didn't do it right doesn't mean it can't happen. TERAs story isn't great by any means though but its not bad. Presentation is crap but I'm guessing their budget wasn't very high for cutscenes and voice acting because if it was considering how polished the game is I'd expect the same from the story.

And where is FFXI now?

Questing is not "just typical MMO questing." Somehow they managed to make it more boring than games like WoW/EQ2. A large part of that I think is due to the rewards you receive. Some slots get upgraded so fast that the items you receive feel almost worthless while some slots get no upgrades for quite a few levels. Basically Tera fails the carrot on a stick aspect that MMO's are built on. Most of the quests starting about level 20 give less chunks of xp too which does not help the grind feeling. (that is a thing WoW players have been complaining about as well and caused Blizzard to make xp gains more static for quests in places like outlands/northrend)

Where is a 10 year old MMO that isn't named WoW? well its not as successful as WoW but FFXI is still kicking and still taking people's money soooo, good point there!

Its not like a good storyline would hurt the game so I don't know why anyone would argue against this. TERA's story sucks but worse its presentation sucks. When you don't care about anything you simply just stop caring about everything. TERA was fun, for a bit, but its a shallow game at best.
