In 1993, Sega released Virtua Fighter in arcades. It was a hit in the Japanese market, but it never did appear on the Sega Megadrive because the Megadrive could never handle Virtua Fighter, so it instead appeared on Segas next system in 1994 - the Sega Saturn.

However, at that time, Sony was launching their new console, the PlayStation. They needed an answer to Virtua Fighter, and with the help of Namco, Tekken was born.

Tekken plays similar to that off Virtua Fighter, only Tekken uses two punches and two kicks and you have to press back to block. The gameplay feels slow and unplayable by today’s standards. And the game is basically a direct arcade port; you have an arcade mode, verse mode, and an option mode. Theirs a sub boss to unlock with each character you use, but they play similar to the characters you already have.

On one hand, it does feature an arcade port of Galaga. If you beat Galaga, you unlock Devil Kazuya. Which is just a purple Sonic the hedgehog merged with Kazuya.
