- The Bottom Line:
- "Amazing"
I became an Tekken fan during the PSOne days. I started with Tekken 2 and followed every single game. This game was hard to come by for late PS2 owners, because very few people traded the game in. And when it was traded in it was quickly picked up by another. My friend traveled all over Illinois and Indiana just to get it. Now on with the review.
Graphics:
The graphics for this game was the best I have ever seen back in the PS2 days. The graphics on this game even surpassed the arcade version. The graphics of the arcade version was more along the line of Tekken 3. The characters looked amazing and the special effects is excellent. The different sparks looked very beautiful.
Roster:
The character roster is very strong. You basically get to play as all of the characters from Tekken 1 to 3, which resulted in a really huge selection. It was great to see Jun in action again. If you haven't guessed Jun is one of my all time favorite characters in Tekken.
This game gets a well deserved 10 out of 10. Thank you Namco for creating a game that provided memorable moments with my friends.
Gameplay:
Gameplay hasn't really changed much. It plays just like any other Tekken game; however the tag feature changed the game in a few ways. It is also worth noting that the characters are given additional moves, therefore exploring the moveset of each character will be very beneficial and rewarding.
Picking characters that are related to each other in some way results in interesting fight entrances and some grabs can set up unique tag grabs. You can also execute tag juggles with the proper timing. And be careful, because the round ends when one character goes down. Therefore take advantage of the regeneration feature. When you take damage a red bar will appear. This red bar represents health that can be regained by having the damaged character tag out.
There isn't many game modes in this game. There is the arcade, time attack, team battle, training, and coop arcade/time attack. You can also play Tekken Bowl. The nice thing about the game is four people can play together by using the pair play mode if I remember correctly. This can by activated by using the left and right directional when you highlight a game mode in the main menu.

Story:
There really isn't a story for this game; however the endings are quite interesting. Some endings are serious, heart warming, and funny. I wish there was some dialogue between the characters in the game. Despite the lack of dialogue in the game it still retains the essence of Tekken.
Final Thoughts:
This is one game all gamers shouldn't miss out on. It is arguably one of the best PS2 games out there. There will be a PS3 exclusive title called Tekken Hybrid coming out in November of 2011; therefore if you haven't played Tekken Tag before then pick this up and practice. I hope the new version will feature an online mode that allows four players to play together. That will be awesome. Get yourself ready, because Tekken is back.
Pros:
Graphics outshines the arcade version
Tag feature adds a little more depth
The characters were given additional moves
Four players can duke it out in tag battles
The character roster is perfect
Cons:
Lack of dialogue
Lack of game modes
