An interesting direction for Tekken, and it turned out very well.

User Rating: 9.2 | Tekken Tag Tournament (Platinum) PS2
Until now, Tekken has always been about 1 on 1 fighting. Tekken Tag tournament changes this, making it a 2 on 2 competition for the first and only time in the series.

You get all your regular Tekken gameplay modes here. Acade, Survival, Time Atack, Team play and practice are all here. 1 on 1 is also available here, in case you don't like the tag team.

In every one of the modes, you have to pick 2 characters to fight with. You can swap them in and out on the fly in a fight, simply by hitting one of the shoulderbuttons on the controller. when a character is not being used, he regains some of the health he lost in the fight. The fight ends once 1 character's health bar is depleted.

The team fighting obviously makes for some interesting combos. Some characters work better together than others, like Jin and his mother Jun. They can be swapped mid combo, making for some great team play.

1 on 1 is standar tekken fighting, however, you don't get an ending when you beat it this way.

All of the modes have a Pair Play option, where 2 players can worl together on a team, rather than playing against each other. This makes the game playable for up to 4 people.

The fighters are a compilation of the first 3 Tekken games, and so some balancing had to be done. This worked very successfully. No character is too strong or too weak compared to the others.

Much of the material from previous Tekkens has been recycled and updated. Many levels make their return in full PS2 glory, as do many character models and costumes. Everything has been seriously upgraded, and looks better than ever.

The sound has not carried over. The music is new, with fitting tunes for the areas. The sound effects sound the same, and are just as good as they ever were.

Tekken Tag Tournament is a great fighter on all levels, and any fan of the series, or any fighting fans in general, should pick this up.
