Arguably the best fighting game ever made, on ANY system.

User Rating: 9 | Tekken: Dark Resurrection PSP
Admittedly, I am an enormous Tekken fan. I have owned and loved every Tekken game ever made (except the GBA version, but that hardly counts). So how does Dark Resurrection fare? Well, it's the best in the series. Even over the fantastic Tekken 5 on PS2. So what's so great about it?
Well first off, it's Tekken. As an avid beat 'em up fan, I haven't found a better fighting series. Soul Calibur? Not quite. Virtua Fighter? No way. Dead or Alive? Sheesh... not even close. I'm sure there are people out there who disagree with me, but I couldn't care less. Tekken is the bomb.
Like every Tekken game before it, Dark Resurrection is a four button fighting game. Two punch buttons, two kick buttons, and throws executed by pressing square+cross or triangle+circle. But of course, the moves of each character go far beyond that. Many include various combinations of the four buttons, and thankfully you can assign the shoulder buttons to pull off two buttons at once. Although it was a tad strange going from using four shoulder buttons in the PS2 version, The closer spacing of the PSP buttons means the basic throws can be accomplished easily without shoulder button help. As far as being on the PSP goes, Dark Resurrection pushes the console to near breaking point with its absolutely fantastic graphics. If this is the best the PSP can do, then damn... i'm not complaining. Character models are extremely detailed, with flowing animation that simply looks wonderful.
As far as things to do go, Tekken Dojo mode and arcade mode present a great challenge for those wanting to master the game. At the moment I have reached 'Dark Lord' status (The highest ranking) with 7 characters, but I can see myself getting more. As far as multiplayer goes, it's brilliant. If you've got mates with PSPs, then you'll want them to get this too. The game does have game sharing, but this comes with an enormous load time and only one arena.
It's a slight annoyance that there is no true online play, since if there was I could easily see myself giving this 9.0+. As it stands, Tekken: Dark Resurrection is still a fantastic fighting game, and is one of the best games on PSP, next to the likes of Lumines and Loco Roco.
