Its a good fighting game with a lot of the same depth, but much like tekken 4, some elements don't work.

User Rating: 8.5 | Tekken 6 PS3
Its been a couple of years since the last iteration of the series, and tekken 6 delivers a fun, deep, and solid fighter. Tekken 6, however, falls short on some aspects as the game is rehauled.

gameplay- the core fighting is deep. with a robust roster of 40 characters, theres at least one character out there for anyone to gravitate to. The movesets have been beefed up with every old character getting 5 or more moves. The new characters bring a great addition to the roster, with all feeling unique. This game offers up arcade mode (one player fights 8-9 cpu characters), survival (one player fights as many opponents as possible until his/her health is completely depleted), team (pick a team to go up against another in elimination process) and ghost battle (fighting against data from real life players). there is also versus (2 player battle).

However,Its rather odd that the most compeling mode is not the 1 vs 1 aspect of tekken, but a brawler game mode called scenario campaign. You controll a fighter, and along with a cpu controlled fighter, go from stage to stage beating up generic enemies and fight a boss at the end of the stage. rinse and repeat about 30+ times. Is it fun, hardly, grind going through this mode is worth it because it provides the story for tekken and if anyone is interested in unlocking those character specific movies, then scenario campaign is the only way. Also another compelling reason to play scenario campaign is the fact that item drops is an easier way to unlock items to customize your character. For these reasons, scenario campaign feels like a necessity, and a bitter one at that, For a fighting game, its strange that the developers have been trying to peddle a brawler, and a clunky one at that.

Speaking of customizing characters, there is a robust lineup of different outfits to choose. You want to create a character looking a bit like joker from batman, its possible with dragunov. you don't like a fighters outfit, its possible to change it to a more desirable one. Unlike tekken 5, tekken 6 is actually awesome and one can spend a lot of time customizing characters.

Aside from these ofline mode, there is a clunky online mode. It has a ranked match, or a non ranked match. its functional, but everything is just laggy. Its not the broken lag that was really prevalent in t5dr for the psn, but there is imput lag. If anyone has juggles as a large part of their game, online mode may leave people frustrated even if the 2 online players have good connection.

graphics- tekken in the past has always pushed graphics on a whole new level, and t6 is good, but not up to the same standards that previous tekken games have set in their respective era. the character models skin is my main issue. its plastic looking. even vf5 had skin textures and pores and goosebumps in its fighters, but tekken has little or none at all. the backgrounds are solid, but nothing pops out. there is no wow factor. With that said, the animations of characters are awesome. A lot of animetiaons evamped, and even the electricity of the mishima's ewgf (the uppercut) looks great. t6 is no doubt a good looking game, but i was expecting something closer to the e3 trailer with the pores at the very least appearing in this game.

In the end, one can't go wrong picking this game up. Its a terrific fighter because the fighting core is inviting for casual and new players but deep for veterans. The scenario campaign leaves a lot to be desired, and its rather odd that a fighting game has a big chunk of its gameplay devoted to a mediocre brawler mode. Its a good idea that they tried to streamline the games story in a different way that makes sense, but the execution falls short. Aside from the core gameplay, a lot of the new things introduced falls short, but thank god for all of us, the fighting is awesome. all fans should buy this game, but not every1 should expect this as the next evolution in the tekken series, or fighting game genre for that matter
