Flawed but still better than most

User Rating: 9 | Tekken 6 PS3
Tekken 6 is a great fighting game with some technical flaws that unfortunately bogs down the game itself. Nevertheless fighting game fans really need to try this game.

Tekken 6 is divided into arcade, ghost battle, Scenario Campaign and online multiplayer modes.

Scenario Campaign is one of the weakest mode in Tekken 6, yet Namco forces you to play it in order to gain money for customization. Scenario Campaign's auto aim system is counter intuitive, often you would switch target without any sense and you would get hit because of it. As well, there is sometimes almost no tact to the fight as often you'd be swarmed with 4 or 5 enemies near you and you couldn't do anything other than getting your ass kicked.

I've gotten frustrated a few times in scenario campaign and called it quits because it was getting ridiculous when the camera switches on you. I'd wish Namco would cancel Tekken Force/Scenario Campaign forever as it has not worked for the past 3 games. As for the actual fighting mechanisms in Tekken 6, they are pretty solid. The combos are usually between 40% - 50% of your life unless you hit the wall then it would be more like 60 - 70%, which is on par with Tekken 4.

In playing against the computer on the default setting, the AI has not really gotten much better in my opinion, as I've had only like a handful of losses compared to hundreds of wins, but it does combo and juggle a lot better than in Tekken 5. In my opinion, a novice player might find it more of a challenge on the default settings, because I didn't find it that hard. Keep in mind, I've been playing Tekken for years so I'm no novice.

Unfortunately I never gotten the chance to test the game online, due to my Internet speed, however I heard that the patch that Namco released made the online portion decent but it still didn't match up to Tekken 5 DR Online.

Playing offline is decent enough, however I have a grudge against not being able to level up past 1st Dan. This is ridiculous as I've leveled up each characters in Tekken 5 to Tekken Lord, so Tekken 6 should allow me to level each character until I've hit Tekken God status.

If you're bored with playing the default ghosts in ghost battle, head up online to download ghosts. My gripe with this mode as well is that you can not download the top ghosts for each character, you can only download the newest uploaded ghosts. This makes no sense as you should be able to battle players that are the top as well as the newest. Namco should definitely fix this problem as well as some of the other problems.

For those who are concerned about the graphics, there are some minor gripes with it as well. The graphics are not 1080p, it's not even full 720p, but rather has been upscaled to 720p. Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection had 1080p and it's unfortunate that Namco could not make this game 1080p.

As for sound, Tekken 6 has a kicking soundtrack. My favorites are Mystical Forest and Electronic Fountain. From yodeling to rock, Tekken 6 delivers a wide arrange of sound.

Overall Tekken 6 is a good game, but it has its shortcoming. My major gripe is with Scenario Campaign and how Namco forces you to play that mode in order to gain items. This is a painful process of having to deal with a sub-par portion of the game. I should not be subjected to that in order to buy items for my characters.

As well, the ghost battle leveling up mechanism is limited where as before it wasn't, so Namco should change that as well. For Tekken 7, Namco should really step up their game and deliver the best fighting game ever. Until then, I'll be playing Tekken 6.
