User Rating: 5.5 | Tekken 6 PSP
I am writing this review to firstly give everyone an very honest and truthful feedback about Tekken 6 which a lot of hardcore fans of the series out there have felt but have somehow not commented over. I have credibility to express my view, on the series as firstly I own an original copy of the game which was insanely overpriced but i have been faithful to NAMCO ever since Tekken 2 came out for PS one, and since then it has been one of the best series of fighting games ever produced and rightfully been called at times also the mother of all fighting games. However there have only been 2 ports of the series made for the PSP so far which are TEKKEN 5 Dark resurrection and the latest TEKKEN 6 , now I would not like to compare Tekken 6 for PSP with any other games in the series but Dark resurrection which is only natural to do. I really don't care much who all were involved in taking the core decisions about this game at Namco Bandai but they have made a really big mess I mean come on why would you strip off game modes like quick battle, Tekken bowl, command attack and Dojo as these were so unique and gave tekken its very face as we know it today.
Also i would comment on the fact the modes which are present have not been done justice to for instance the story mode is just four battle's and if that was not enough, there are absolutely no cutscenes which were so amusing and gave a lot of depth to the game story as now it seems bunch of people just fighting lamely with each other until the prologue for the respective character appears, even though the ending CG movies seem to have been done in a great haste and are repetitive for most of the characters with minor changes if you want to know what I am talking about check out the endings in Dark Resurrection. I mean why do
1. Asuka, Lilly and Panda similarly
2.Draganov , Raven and
3.Heihachi, Kuma and
4.Steve, Law
are all thrown in the same backgrounds in their endings, Just when we were getting used to the fact of Christie and Eddy always share the same ending putting aside the fact how many character endings just involve most of the characters just inside or near the final boss(AZAEL) stage background with just difference in their dialogues, was it the company's lame attempt to shorten the release date. I have always loved the endings in the Tekken series ever since Tekken 2 and marveled at them looking at the painstaking detail they put in and how beautifully they were crafted to to make each ending as good as an commercial movie trailer, If you want to get a taste of what i am saying watch Feng Wei's ending I mean how lame can you get. However I also strongly appreciate the fact that they had good and different endings in terms of treatment and quality as Mokujin's ending. Now that we are somewhat done talking about the story, what happened to the Music tracks? are we not entitled to listen to them. Why NAMCO BANDAI Why ?

One of the things that really set Tekken apart from other fighters in the genre was its beautiful, well thought and crucial replay system which was showcased at the end of each and every round. It gave the players time to observe where they went wrong and ultimately to appreciate the complete beauty of character animation(motion capture) and the the physics of the game. Now I do hope they had a really, really, really good reason for removing this feature from the game as it is pissing off a lot of faithful fans out there. Needless to mention there was never an CG art section in the gallery mode for the PSP version but at least we all got to see the beautiful CG art of all the characters during the fight loading scene before the battle, now I am not complaining about it but why are all the images so horribly pixellated in TEKKEN 6 it just gives the game an very ugly look. There is a rumor out there that they did this to cut out the loading time in the battle which is not noticeable and if they were giving this feature of install which is meant to install game data on the memory card to help provide hassle free AD HOC battles then they could have easily given most of the features. By the way the install feature asks for at least 367MB space which is suppose to shorten the loading times, what I want to get through to NAMCO is that if you could give some feature like this then why remove replay and other game modes from this TEKKEN 6, In the end I would just like to say this in the end to pretty much everything they have done that this all seems to be a really big joke (a sarcastic one if you ask me) that the game has rather gone primitive from it earlier release, are they trying to tell everyone not to buy the PSP versions of the same game as their other 2 ports for X360 and PS3 still retain all the good features and is absurd coming from NAMCO as these guys set a milestone of versus fighters for Tekken in PSP and now they give us Tekken 6.

The most insensitive thing which an company like NAMCO can do to its faithful fans is by not giving its players the choice of choosing which side would they like to play the game from as some people master the command list from the right side, so the game forces them to end up feeling handicapped. This is from a company which has made the Tekken series starting right from 1995 till up to date.

My conclusion would be that this game is not worth a buy until and unless the developer team releases an update patch for the PSP version fixing all the above mentioned issues and you guys should buy Tekken 5 Dark resurrection for PSP not this as it has been degraded to something else and is not even fit enough to be qualified to be called an Tekken game. The only possibility why anyone would have a reason to buy this would be because of the fact that the character rooster is nice and the game mechanics have not been tampered with like the rest of the game or you are a really crazy die hard fan of the series.

What ever new elements the company has introduced to the game like the rage meter and the shear large scale of the boss being insanely oversized and involvement of weapons in the combat sure looks really cool but makes Tekken so not Tekken but a step closer to a lot of mediocre 2D fighter Arcade games releases in the late 90's. Azael the new boss in the series is surely hard to beat and not only disappoints the old fans but completely repels anyone new to the series so best of luck with that Namco. If this is how NAMCO BANDAI choose to repay back fans dedication to the series like me then they are about to loose a lot of fans. There is nothing worth the price in the game except for the name it holds. I would like you all to ask and request NAMCO for a fix up patch which gives the player the option to select which side he wants to play from, option to enable or disable replay system using memory card or however they can manage it, has team battle and allow training in AD hoc with selectable stages and make the music tracks available in theatre mode that would be everything necessary to fix this game. thanks for reading guys.
