Great value for the price

User Rating: 9.6 | Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection PS3
Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection has been on the arcades, PSP and finally it comes back on the home platform. It's been what every Tekken fan has been waiting for and will keep fans busy until Tekken 6 comes out .

Dark Resurrection has added two new characters to the already impressive roster, Dragunov and Lili. Dragunov is a Russian commando that is prolific in sambo, he kinda looks like Edward Scissorhand and Lili is a blonde artistocrat that uses street fighting as an escape to her boring life. It also touts the return of Armor King, which makes it 35 characters in all, not counting pallette swaps. Beside the addition of the three characters, there's been some moves modification. Juggles has been toned down, so no more half life off on most of the simple combos which was a nuisance with Tekken 5. New moves has been added as well, like Kazuya's b, b+2, 2. Overpowered characters like Steve and Nina has been toned down and other characters toned up. However, the wall combo system still presents problem as you still can't wall tech.

Graphically the game still looks gorgeous but the graphics has some flaws when you compare it to Virtua Fighter 5. Then again, Virtua Fighter 5 is totally built up from next-gen technology while Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection is built on Playstation 2 hardware. Characters and stages still look impressive in 1080p, a testament to Namco character design. And if you don't find the design you like for chracters, you can always customize their looks by purchasing items. The customization list has been beefed up somewhat from Tekken 5, so you'd have more of an opportunity to spend your hard earned golds on that outfit you always wanted.

Beside beefing up customization and graphics, music has also been expanded. Namco added a few new tracks to the existing Tekken 5 music. The music pumps out nicely in the background as the fighters grunt. There's some special about hearing the piano sound in the dark wilderness stage while playing with your favorite character.

Overall, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection is a great game. There's no questions about the gameplay system since it's just an update to Tekken 5. However, due to the fact that Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection is a download and not a full game, there are no extra modes or any ending movies. Nevertheless, Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection delivers enough thrills for the money.
