Tekken 4, one of the best fighting games out there.

User Rating: 9.2 | Tekken 4 PS2
Tekken has always been one of the top fighting games in the market. It combines the flashy over the top moves with the depth of a Shaolin master. And Tekken 4 is no exception. Tekken 4 features less characters than TTT, which is expected since this is not a fantasy game. New characters like Steve Fox, Craig Marduk and the new Jin Kazama join the veterans like Heihachi Mishima. Kazuya Mishima is raised from the dead to join the fray as well. Breaking away from the traditional infinite arena, Tekken 4 features walls and breakable environment. Wall techs have been added to ensure that the player doesn't get stuck in a wall and gets comboed to death. This is a very good and new feature in Tekken 4. As well position change is another new feature in Tekken 4. Position change is well implemented and can be very useful to put the pressure onto the opponents. However, Namco has sacrificed the usual 1+3 throws to use for the position change, making it feel kinda weird for the veteran Tekken players. The characters have good movelists and maybe be a little bit powered. They're usually fine and doesn't make the game unbalanced. Jin, on the other hand, has his 1,2,3,d+4 or his JF Laser Scraper which is the main cause of the unbalance in this game. Jin's move is just too overpowered, for such as easy moves. Nevertheless, if you know what you're doing, Jin will not pose as much of a problem. Graphic models of characters like Jin have been reduced in quality because of the focus on the new environment which are real time rendered, not like TTT. Some of these are breakable and nice touch to a game. While you're fighting in the arena, musics are pumping out in the background. However, this game just doesn't have TTT calibur music and most fighting games don't, which is a consolation in some ways. The music has its moment in some stages like Honmaru. Extras like Tekken Force are good if you get an urge to go up against the Tekken-shu. However, it gets tiring fast and needs more flair. Something along the line of Tekken Bowl would've been much better. Overall, the gameplay is very solid and would be one of the best if not for Jin. Graphics are nice enough for a PS2 game and the real time rendered environment are a nice touch. Sound and music are decent and keeps the atmosphere while you beat someone to a pulp. Overall, this is a good fighting games that you can own.
