We check out the handheld version of Konami's TMNT game.

Konami is showing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Game Boy Advance at E3 2003, and we took it for a quick spin today. The game is a straight side-scrolling brawler that lets you pick any of the four turtles and take the fight to the Foot (Clan, that is).

Two levels were available in the demo. The first was a beat-'em-up sequence, which we assume is the main component of the game. We picked Raphael and fought against a ton of street punks using a variety of fighting moves. You can mash the main attack button and perform a canned combo repeatedly, and you'll also be able to mix in a few more attacks, like foot sweeps, jump kicks, and uppercuts, to form other rudimentary combos. The combat here was pretty basic, but enjoyable.

The other level available had us riding a hovercraft of sorts through a sewer tunnel. We were firing lasers at tons of mouser robots that were jumping out of the water, and at the end we had to contend with even more mousers while simultaneously shooting our way through a giant door.

It seems like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be a solid and varied action game for the GBA. Stay tuned for more.
