I know the graphics are more realistic in this game than how we're used to seeing the Turtles, but I honestly doubt there's any connection between this game and Michael Bay's movie. For starters, the words "Teenage" and "Mutant" are in the title, and Bay's film is going to just be called "Ninja Turtles". From what I heard, this game is inspired by the Nick toon, but heading in a different (possibly more mature) direction.

Well.. the art style does seem to resemble some early concept art I saw for the Ninja Turtle movie. And the vibe of the trailer doesn't feel anywhere near as lighthearted as the new show.

Also, considering the delay after fans tore Bay a new butt hole after the alien announcement..some rewrites to the script may very well have occurred. But I've also heard that they delayed it so it would release for the 30th anniversary of the turtles. So we won't know for sure till it comes out I guess.

I also have had a seed of hope that Michael Bay may have worded things a bit wrong when he stated the turtles' alien origins. Their origins DO have to deal with aliens.. the mutagen ooze they get covered in was actually created by aliens. And co-creator Peter Laird said to not worry
BUT IT'S MICHAEL FRICKEN BAY... SO WE HAVE EVERY RIGHT BE SCARED FOR THE FUTURE OF THE TURTLES. HE DID CAST MEGAN FOX IN IT AFTER ALL! UGH!

Actually, the title has changed; if you noticed, when Bay announced that Fox was in the movie (on his forums), he didn't use "Ninja Turtles" but rather "TMNT".

And yes, the game is inspired by the new show but being designed with a more mature look.

Totally hoping there is an option for all red masks! |D

As others have said, the game is based off the universe from the current Nickelodian show, but it's a loose affiliation. The lead designer stated he wanted people my age, his age who grew up watching the show in the '90s to go "I remember that."

Personally, it seems to fit in with the original 1990 film the most in terms of design. They even confirmed Raphael's "bowling ball" move from that film is in.
