An old school game that will either take you back, or make you wish you were there to begin with!

Tecmo's Secret of the Stars isn't well known by many people, but its a good fun game. You and your group of child warriors (the Aqutallions) spend the majority of the game meeting each other, building a town, then defeating the evil Homncruse (or as I call him, Tom Cruise).

Its pretty much what you expect from an early, barely heard of RPG. There are several prominent typos throughout the game (BRORDSWRD, for example), and there seems to be no cohesive setting...you'll fight with swords just as equally as laser guns.

Its a quick game, and most will probably finish it within a week or two. Its easy to put down and take back up, as there is not much plotline to go through. I enjoyed it for this reason...it was a nostalgic romp through slimes, goblins, and dragons.

The music is typical of this age game...high paced battle music for bosses and melodic tunes for towns. Don't expect anything too fancy in the way of graphics either. Although I did enjoy the pleasant colors, no major artists were hired for this job.

This game isn't for everyone. Fans of the newer, action packed and flashy games will not get into it at all. In fact, many RPGers probably won't. But if you want to introduce your children to a simpler time of gaming, or take yourself back to that time, then Secret of the Stars is an excellent game to choose.
