1 Like I don't understand you Tom. You get really upset by EA's stupid weapon promotion, but when a commenter talks about it being OK to own guns as long as you only use them for protection and with training, that's alright?
Is there an actual real reason for assault rifles to be commercially available? Tell me one good reason why anyone would need to have a gun in their home!
A video game is a toy we use for our enjoyment. A gun is weapon used to kill people. Any association between a game and the promotion of actual weapons encouraging there purchase is sick. These is creating a direct connection between a a fun toy and a weapon. Basically the promotion gives the impression that a gun is another type of toy to be used for fun.
Can someone please tell me what Jade Raymond has done to receive this kind of recognition? I mean to compare her to Michel Ancel is an insult to the genius behind some of the greatest games of all time. Also, Jade Raymond did not create Assassin's Creed. It was Patrice Desilets and left after the series became to repetitive. I am from Montreal born and raised and know a few people at Ubisoft who say Jade Raymond is way over hyped by the media. Girls got talent and looks, but easy there people. What next? Are we going to compare her to Miyamoto?
Patrice Desilets was the director of Assasins Creed he didn't create it. Jade Raymond was the producer. Credit were credit is due even the director of Assiasins creed 2 acknowledged the first game as as being her baby, the project she was responsible for and explainned that she was taking a back seat in the sequel as exective director so I would say she had alot to do with the first game.
In some ways I preferred the first game which was initially meant to be a trilogy until the project was taken over from Jade Raymond and they got greedy and decided to do yearly releases.
That guy was on Sony for the games, but how many Mario games does nintendo continue to make? Talking of lack of creativity?

1 Like PSVita should have had internal memory, and maybe some devs would make download exclusives. Even the consumers would love it, so everybody wins. Except sony wants that extra cash from their overpriced memory cards, but now they're trying to add them into buddles. They can't admit to their mistake.

1 Like Thank you for covering the EA guns issue. I wasn't aware of the campaign so I didn't have time to form an opinion. But your debate really opened my eyes. As appealing as these games sound, I will try to stay away from anything that calls itself authentic.
1 Like Stupid people's views are slanted by the media they consume. Anyone who takes what they are shown and spoon fed by the media; on the news, in books, on TV, in movies, or video games and takes it at face value or has their fundamental perceptions of the world altered by it is an idiot. You have to take those things and combine with common sense (something which a great many people are woefully lacking in), the realization that public education is biased as well, and filter thru the intellect we supposedly possess as the "dominant" species on this planet. It's all about perception and people's willingness (or unwillingness) to recognize and understand the difference between reality and their view of "truth."
The problem with innovation in gaming is money. Publishers/Developers can't afford to take risks these days because of the economy of the games industry. A few missteps and bad sales and it's game over for your company. The broader audience of gamers these days aren't the forgiving type that the gamers of the '80s and '90s were. They are not serious about gaming as a hobby and are only purchasing a half dozen games a year (if that) so unless it has CoD or Madden in the title they aren't interested. Sucks for us in the hardcore crowd but that's the reality of our passion. It's been sullied by the masses thanks to the lure of the dollar and unfortunately there's no going back from that.
Anyone saying that the Vita needs a price cut doesn't understand what the system really offers. The hardware is totally worth the money. It just needs to have a developed library of games (which takes time) and a greater depth of functionality in the form of cross play and cross control, all of which Sony is working on developing and incorporating right now. It's still extremely early in it's life cycle and most people are not early adopters. Most people are also usually whiners when it comes to spending money, especially if they think they're going to be able to get it cheaper next week. Price cut is not coming any time soon people.

If I can't scrub to any point in the video and immediately start watching there, without having to wait for the whole video to buffer to that point, we have a problem. I accidentally hit the back button on my mouse and had to wait 5 minutes to watch the end.

Tom, Brendan...... I waited, I never saw or heard either of you say that you were going to never preview/review EA's or other company's war games again, and you never said you'd boycott EA or Michael Bay games or movies.
Well, when you get down off your high horses, watch out for all of the crap they were spewing out. Obviously, the line they crossed wasn't that big of a deal, and you don't have the ability to make your own little corner of the world better.
As a former Marine, I saw someone (were at P.I. together) leave the service after claiming to be a conscientious objector. There was no war going on at the time, 9/11 wouldn't happen for another few years. I have more respect for him acting on his beliefs than I ever will for "Quoted for Truth" period now.
Here's what I think editors sometimes forget when trying to review a game, but Tom hit the nail on the head at 01:36: you aren't paying for this game. You got to play it through to completion for free. Yes, you were actually doing work, and probably didn't get to enjoy it as much the first time since you had to write a review, but you still got to do that for free. I think the GS UK reviewer said something about that at the end of her review.
At the end of a review, just tell me if you would go out and actually buy this game with your own money. I'll admit, I rent many games before I buy them, but I look at reviews to help guide me towards titles I never really followed for whatever reason.

There is innovation in every industry, but it's a disappointment when the large dollar amounts that provide for polish and shorter development cycles gets devoted to the less innovative sector. I'm sure there are plenty of indie games and indie movies that could have used a higher budget to speed things up, make them look better etc.

It's very easy to tear into corporations and label them as "******** ignorant" without realizing that these are individual people trying to make a living. Why don't you spend your time lambasting the "********* ignorant" people who purchase the games you hate?
The worst part, however, was the comment referring to the charity to help wounded warriors as "it's like buying fast food to support fat people or buying drugs to support drug addicts", then Tom saying "that's an excellent point

1 Like Jade Raymond is completely wrong. 'Gamers' are buying the games that are innovative. Look at Bastion, Fez, Amnesia, Dungeons of Dredmor, etc. etc. The vast majority of money is going to the big blockbusters because the general public is buying them. Just because these indie games aren't making CoD money does not mean they aren't making money.

2 Like 18:42 Brendan raises a damn good point and makes a good cultural critique. I'm opposed to alot of the commitification of machismo that goes on in our (American) culture. Games, movies, books...that promote war itself turn my stomach.
I'm a former serviceman, US army Infantry 11 Bravo. Served in the Republic of Korea (SK). Even in a non-combat zone it sucked. Military life, having your life constantly controlled in a company culture of sameness, eats ass even when you're not in combat.
What's worse is that most of what our military is used for has NOTHING to do with defending a fucking country! It's mostly arms rackets and propping up puppet governments for Wall Street to exploit. Then...mofos want to comodify it.
Because of these things, I simply DON'T buy these types of games nor movies. I don't reward these assholes for this shit.
Seems simple enough. If you object to the game or the marketed side material, don't buy them. Its ironic. How often do gamers rally in outrage any time somebody pushes for banning mature content in video games and now much of the gaming community is doing the exact same thing they supposedly hate with regards to Medal of Honor? They morally object to firearms and military culture, (similar to how moralists object to violence, sex or homosexuality in games) but its not enough to personally abstain from buying such products, they have to raise a stink and make sure nobody else does either. It's quite telling.
2 Like @Buffalo2867 The thing is, I don't want concerned parents to shut up about sex in games; I want them to understand why their concerns aren't sufficient justification for legislation. I don't want people who disagree with me to be silent; I want us all to see there are other opinions out there, and to understand where each of them is coming from. When it's done properly, communication leads to better understanding. It may not sway everyone to one side, but it can take the stupid animosity out of an argument in a way that silence and lack of exposure to dissenting viewpoints never will.
@Polybren Agreed. But unfortunately that isn't really how the world (or people) work. It's absolutely how things should work and would make things much simpler if we could just recognize that not all (in fact most) things don't have one defnite answer and that people have different ideas and opinions. Unfortunately most people seem to be dead set that they are right, everyone else is wrong and anyone that doesn't agree with them is an idiot.
mcshea and sinclair do not understand war....period. yes death is bad...when it comes down to it...they spit on these soldiers who CHOOSE to give up their lives to uphold freedom and their way of living. 1 Like As far as innovations...people vote with their wallet, i see more chances being taken when it comes to cheaper xbox live arcade and psn games. Problem solved if the publishers just let the developers have some freedom with psn and xbox live arcade game.

it wouldve been nice if while they were talking about game innovations, they wouldve showed footage of the games they were pushing for and not just splinter cell -_-
As for the VITA, I just don't want all these amazing things that the VITA can do, and then in the end, publishers don't care at all about them and barely incorperate them into their games. That's what happened with the Playstation's Sixaxis controller, and I'm worried that that's what's going to happen for this handheld.
@Codester_41 That kind of attitude stifles innovation. Maybe you don't want it but that doesn't mean that others don't and doesn't mean that developers won't incorporate or even design games specifically around those features. If you've seen any of the info about upcoming titles for the Vita you'll see that developers are incorporating and using the features that the Vita offers. It's a way to make different play styles available and make gaming more accessible to a broader audience. All these features actually work really well and aren't in any significant way responsible for the Vita's final price tag so what's your gripe?
@Codester_41 meh..that always happens. remember that ir port on the game boy color or the countless expansion ports that were never used on consoles..I don't think touch pads are very expensive..specially when they arent in a screen so it was more of a space user on the vita rather than a waste
