Can someone explain to me how the YER knife works?

It is not unique. Might have been a headshot or a crit flare.
Several different non-random crits in general, really.

And it's not the greatest advantage to it. That's like saying 25 more health is the gunslinger's greatest advantage. The whole point of using the YER is that you can get stabs without other people noticing you are there. The instant disguise mechanic is much more integral to this than the "silent kill" mechanic as enemies will, in my experience, notice an undisguised spy much more than a teammate being back stabbed. Your argument was that the spycicle is better because you still get silent kills while silent kills are not the most important part of either knife. Your argument is based off of something that isn't true and thus invalid.
