Radiant Mythology may get a little repetative after a period of time, but it's got enough to keep any RPG fan happy...

Let's be honest about one thing, the PSP lacks a whole lot of amazing RPGs. Sure there's Crisis Core and everything else in the Final Fantasy name, but it's unlike another RPG franchise to make it's way onto this portable console. Here is, Tales of the World a game that mixes a few characters from each 'Tales of' game into this handheld adventure. It's nothing too spectacular, but considering it's only a spin-off from the series, it does a damn fine job of sticking to most of it's roots and delivering a good 'Tales of' experience.

You create your own character at the very start of the game, which you then choose what gender, class, voice, hair, etc you wish it to use. From there your journey begins as your little sidekick helps you along to become a hero. The story is a little cliche, but it's nothing too terrible, so story here is the least of your worries. The game does, however, have decent voice acting and a pretty funny script that doesn't get too annoying.

Throughout the game you may find yourself doing the same thing as that is all that is required. Simply, you look for a quest, accept it, go to the dungeon required and complete your objective, and repeat. It can sometimes get pretty tiresome, especially if you were hoping to explore new places as the game only consists of two dungeons, both of which have a lot of floors to explore and bigger and harder enemies to take on. If you don't find this a problem, then Radiant Mythology probably won't get too tiresome for you, as this is what you'll be doing throughout the game.

Some of the great points about the game is how deep it is. You'll definitely have to spend over 100 hours in this game if you're hoping to achieve and collect everything the game has to offer. There's lots of things to create, armor and weapons to buy, find and upgrade and there's a few classes to switch and master. Plus, Radiant Mythology allows players to trade items between each other via ad-hoc. So there is quite a hell of alot to do.

What's more, the graphics here look great on the PSP, they look very anime-cartoony and very nicely presented. Plus, loading times are short! How nice is that? So yes, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology wasn't what I was expecting and I found it to be an enjoyable RPG that anyone looking for something more than just Final Fantasy should check out.
