Great controls. Great Story. Great Graphics. Great game!

User Rating: 9.1 | Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror PSP
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror is a great achievement on the PSP. With the lack of a second analog, Syphon Filter used the four face buttons to aim, where the analog is to move. It sounds bad, but in actuality, it is a good concept that works! I will admit that it is not as refined as a second analog would be, but this honestly is the next best thing.

Syphon Filter is a third person shooter that puts you in the role of Gabe Logan, an agent working for the Syphon Filter agency. first of all, to begin, you have the option to do an in game tutorial, where you will be taught the basics while performing them yourself. This proves very useful for beginners, as you will learn all the controls of Syphon Filter, and may even unlock some special prizes.

Your objective is to infiltrate enemy territory and find out what is Project Dark Mirror, and stop it from ever taking place. To accomplish your mission, you are prepared with your trusty silenced 9mm pistol, and your very awesome rifle, which can shoot normal bullets, and various darts which include explosion darts, gas darts, and electric darts. The gas and electric darts silently take out your enemies while the normal bullets, and explosions alert other enemies to your location, as they are loud. Throughout your mission, Logan will pick up an array of weapons, from your pistol, to rocket launchers. You name it, they've got it!

Within the story mode, you will play throughout seven episodes, each unlocking a piece of the story upon completion, as well as some bonus mission that are not relevant to the Dark Mirror game, but relevant to previous installments in the Syphon Filter Series.

You may also play on mission mode, where you may choose whichever level you would like to play, so long as it has already been unlocked in the story mode. Mission mode is where you may access bonus levels, but they must be unlocked in various ways.

Next feature is your career rating. this feature tells you where you excel in by giving a percentage of how you utilize certain aspects of the game, such as if you do silent kills, head shots, knife kills, environment kills, dart kills, and if you can just stay alive in a level without dying. There are four levels to each of these categories, and when you get 100% for any given level, you move on the the next level of that category, and for the previous level you unlocked, you are awarded a badge, and an unlocked item, which varies from level to level. As the levels increase, the unlocked items get better and better. They may range from a new weapon to use in mision mode to a new level in bonus mode.

One of the biggest features for this game is the online capabilities. This game supports game share, local wi-fi, and infastructure. In infustructure mode, you can play anybody online with up to 16 players in a match in various modes.

This game also has 3 different difficulty settings ranging from easy to hard. Enemy A.I. increases, you do not have a map on hard, and enemies take more damage. It's worth playing again with a different difficulty, because it give you a whole new experience, and it feels just right for those who may not handle a harder setting, or feel it is too easy at a lower setting.

On a bad note, there is not much I can say, except that the game is pretty short. My first playthrough may have been six - eight hours long.

There you have it. Syphon Filter is a great game for the PSP. It has fluid controls, a great storyline, awesome graphics, various difficulty settings, and a fun multiplayer mode. For someone looking for a great shooter on the PSP, this is it.
