massive selection of multiplayer options, map editor, havok physics, voice support, clan support and more? A PSP game!?

User Rating: 9 | Syphon Filter: Combat Ops PSP

Syphon Filter: Combat Ops is one of the best titles to hit the PSP. Not only does it include extensive map and mode editing, havok physics, voice support, clan support, and tons of multiplayer options, but it has such a cheap price! You can play one of the best titles on the PSP for only $9.99! Just go to the Playstation PC store and download it right now.

Combat Ops is basically the online portion of Syphon Filter: Logans Shadow, but it comes with a map and mode editor which allows users to create their own content and share it with the online community. Whereas in Logan's Shadow your multiplayer matches were limited to what scenarios Sony posted -- seven maps in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Rogue Agent, Retrieval (a la CTF) and Sabotage (i.e. objective-based stuff like blowing up an opponent's bomb) modes -- Combat Ops gives you the tools to make your own missions, give them a story and then play them with others online. This game thrives on user created content, but there are tons of already made missions to play if your to lazy to create your own. At first the missions modifier/map editor is kind of complicated, but it is very easy to get the hang of.

There are only four maps, but with the extensive editing options it is hardly noticeable, and plus, the game is so cheap. The physics and graphics are from the same engine that powers Logans Shadow, meaning its some of the best the PSP has to offer. There is both Ad-Hoc and Infastructure, and the entire game is online. There is no campaign mode, and the only offline option is the ability to edit maps and modes and such.

When you enter the Mission Modifier, you're given a bevy of choices. To begin with, you'll need to pick one of four locations -- fortress, village, aerospace and ruins. Once your locale is selected, you'll get to choose from lists as to what your central zone is, what your alpha zone is and what your beta zone is. Basically, you get to put together different puzzle pieces in a three-part formula to create your killing field.

Say you select the fortress as your location. You'll have four options for the main area (trenches, trenches & tunnels, dividing wall, and wall & tunnels), five options for the first add-on (nothing, castle, stables, bunker, and stronghold) and another four choices for the third portion (nothing, bunker, and stronghold). From there you'll need to choose if you want to battle it out in the daylight or nighttime, whether you want the weather to be a factor (it can be clear, foggy, raining, snowing, dusty or flooded), and which two of nine squads you want players to pop up during the match.

This is a great game. Gamplay, cheap price, online, its all there. Dont take my word for it though, try it yourself.
