A Decent Enough Action Platform Game, You'll Just Wish There Was A Little More To It.

When I come across previously obscure video games that have previously never been released in North America before, I have to wonder just why it is that they weren't released in North America the first time around. Sometimes, the answer is obvious; like the franchise was obscure in North America...but that's practically the case for ANY video game franchise that doesn't get imported into America! Sometimes, the game is hard! And yes, this game probably would've been next TO impossible to beat on the Sega Genesis, but it's not that hard on the Nintendo Switch thanks to the helpful rewind feature! Lastly, the game might not measure up to other video games that are already available at the time. And while this game is by no means a masterpiece in terms of stories, the writers certainly did a good enough job within the memory limitations of the Sega Genesis, and the graphics certainly look cute and pleasant enough to look at. Of course, you can't always judge a game by it's looks. While the graphics are very good, with good music and sounds, and the controls are solid enough; the fact of the matter is, you'll probably WANT to play this game on the Nintendo Switch with it's helpful rewind feature! Because this is the type of game that actually EXPECTS you to know the precise spots of WHERE you need to attack and when you NEED to move, and if you don't do it when the game EXPECTS you to, your character, Syd of Valis; will get hurt...a LOT! And since this is the type of game where health refills, invincibility stars, and 1-up's are few and far between (5,000 points to get another 1-up may not seem like a lot, but you really don't get that many points for beating an enemy unless its a boss), so this is the type of game where taking great care to not get hurt, knowing the layout of every stage and where enemies are expected to appear, will work to your advantage. While the game would probably be too hard to beat for most people in its original form, the Nintendo Switch does make it a lot EASIER and more reasonable to beat, but it really makes what would've taken a long time to beat, not so long anymore. Still, if you want to play a lighter, softer, and cuter game within the "Valis" video game franchise, than you should definitely try this entry, as its one of the Sega Genesis' more solid action platform games. Enough said, true believers!
