Simple, but great Console RTS

A long, long time ago on a computer far, far away, I was a little snot-nosed boy and I played a well known game called Starcraft. While playing Starcraft online, I stumbled upon a custom map that went by the name of Magic the Gathering. It was an interesting map based on the card game.

It went like this: You had resources and you spent those resources to buy units and spells. Each player had different specialties and you tried to manage your resources in order to destroy your opponents. The interesting aspect is that you can't control your units. You merely buy them and they go out and attack the enemy.
At least...that is how I remembered it.

Anyway, fast forward into the present and now I have just recently downloaded a not-so-well-known game called Swords and Soldiers. And it seems to take those basic elements I remembered and takes them to form a full fledged game.

It's an RTS...but without the control of moving units or placing buildings(other than towers). All your units move by themselves. While it may sound simple (and it is), the tricky part is taking advantage of these new limitations.

The game seems pretty long and the formula is fun. I consider this more of a resource management game. Rather than micromanage your units in battle, you have to focus on construction of units and applying spells at the right place and right time to be most effective.

The game battles are ultimately a tug of war. Your trying to use your army to overcome theirs as they do the same to you. And it all boils down to how well you manage your resources.

For 1000 points, this game is definitely one of the better Wiiware games out there. The length of the game is about 8 hours or so and it has a 2player mode. So if you've got 1000 points lying around, you can't do much better than Swords and Soldiers.
