Sword of Sodan is among the worst Genesis games ever and should be avoided by Hack and Slash Fans.

User Rating: 2 | Sword of Sodan GEN
The good: The violence.
The bad: Ugly graphics, music is terrible, why are there grunting sounds when people get stabbed, bland side scrolling is very boring, broken controls, enemies fly everywhere, no difference between the 2 characters, did I mention the characters are unamed and the plot is stupid and uncreative?

Golden Axe was released in 1989 as a launch title for the Genesis. It was both great and revolutionary. The year after, Sword of Sodan, another hack and slash, was released. Which one is better now? Oh yeah, Golden Axe by a longshot.

Here's the abysmal plot: you must fight a guy hiding in his castle. That's it. Are you kidding me? Do you expect people to play this game after hearing a stupid plot such as this?

There are two unamed characters in the game; a stud guy, and a hot babe. Both are the same in stuff, and they have no differences. Wow! Both have low heart points fo some reason, but you can get some more later, if you even want to play this game in the first place. You have many lives, which will be lost later in the game.

The game-play sucks! You basically walk across the screen with a puny sword somehow killing enemies with bigger swords. When you manage to get past the delay in the controls and stab your opponent, you begin to hear a grunting sound so brutally annoying, that when you stab an enemy, you feel like turning the volume to mute. That's how bad the audio is in the game, and the music is absolutely actrocious.

Graphically, the game is sluggish, sloppy, and nearly abysmal. The level design is simply a joke, and the movements are Master System enchanced.

Sword of Sodan is among the worst Genesis games ever and should be avoided by Hack and slash fans. This is the worst hack and slash game ever made, and since the "Watch out for (insert bad trap)" sign appears many times when you die, you will be forced to be blind! Although the gory and bloody violence is delightful, the poor controls and cheap AI will rip your mind away, and anyone who buys this should hunt down the person responsible and whack him with a baseball bat, then he will learn his lesson, lucky to be alive, and never make a bad game like this again. Not only is it the worst EA game ever made, it's obvious that the Amiga version is way better than the Genesis version. If you want a broken Hack and Slash, please don't be serious.
