Not a bad game, but definitely not worthy of Supreme Commander title

User Rating: 6 | Supreme Commander 2 PC
The gameplay of Supreme Commander in itself is really good, although compared to the previous 2 games, it is a massive blunder. Anyone who has played the previous 2 games will remember the favorite units - the experimentals. The experimental units would be massive, expensive and immensely powerful. In SC2 the experimentals have been dumbed down. They cost less, but have an even less of an impact on the game than the previous 2 games. Additionally, the maps have even less of playable area due to huge amounts of atrocious decorative landscape. I mean when you are fighting a war, I don't think that you should keep the terrain just for showcasing them. You should be able to travel on it. The unit formations have been removed which causes a lot of irritation. Additionally, research no longer costs mass and energy, but research points, which can be generated from research stations. This actually creates a gaping hole in the strategy. With a reasonable amount of mass, you can start mass producing research stations, which will almost instantaneously shoot you to the top of the technological tower.Following this, the experimentals become available and due to their dumbing down, you can start mass producing them to simply exterminate your foes. With all these problems in the gameplay, you also are faced with a marked change in the tone of the game. Previously, the games focused on the war ongoing between the 3 races due to the differences in their thought and opinions. Now you have trivial skirmishes due to differences between people. Overall the game experience is heavily dumbed down. The graphics of the game is definitely an improvement over the previous games. All in all, the game is a really good one by itself. However, for all Supreme Commander fans, this is a humongous disappointment.
