GameSpot staffers sound off on the 3DS after having played with the system and games for the past two weeks.
3DS is too heavy you say? are these the same noodle armed pansies who get exhausted from casual Wii Remote waggling? Hit some weights up.. You can get some 5 pounders for really cheap, and if 5 pound weights are too much for you i hear masturbation can build arm strength. :P
These guys need to see a nutritionist, seriously they had complaints about weight? The thing still weighs less then PSP? Now those of you that took that as an insult to PSP it wasn't ok, i love the PSP. But seriously its not like us gamers never play both, and if one that many play is still heavier then WTF? Seriously if people are starting to have trouble lifting less then a pound for an extended period, they need to get off there ass and walk, or right a paper, really minimal excercise, that couldnt even be called excercise would help. Hell go crank on off and youll be stronger, well at least one arm.
If that is the best you can do in the way of complaints...Then the 3DS must be the best handheld out there! How about these for REAL complaints about the 3DS A) Crap launch titles- Yay you have a 3ds...Now make a Mii and take some 3d pictures because you are stuck with little to nothing else to do on it (unless you like fighting games in which you now have 3 days of fun ahead of you.) B) It is not truly backwards compatible.- YES you CAN play old DS games on them....With TERRIBLE resolution. YES you CAN hit select and start at the same time while the old DS games load up to get the original resolution of the game to appear...But on a MUCH smaller screen(s)...We're talking original Gameboy screen small too. Maybe some of the Gamespot staff LOVE that tiny DS Lite sized screen...Others have moved past that and have been spoiled with the DSi and DSi XL. C) Unexpected crashes.- Although I have not personally experienced this...Gamespot broke the news that crashes were indeed happening. But even with what I mentioned above...It is still a great system and I have faith that the titles will come. I can't believe you guys are so strapped to complain about it (Like those contrarians that hate everything cool because they MUST be different.) that you came up with "too heavy" and "MIGHT get gunk on it"
Frankly, the 3DS is a solid system. The only thing it lacks right now are good games, the eShop, and 3D video recording. Otherwise, it's superior to the old DS models in terms of quality. (come on Ocarina of Time 3D! Let's get a move on here!)
I like the way he threw that quick iPad comment in at the end there. Made me happy.
I'm really not trying to offend anyone here but is that a guy or a girl at 00:35?
Also, @pH347m3, do give Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars a try if that genre is up your alley; it's truly a great and challenging game (long as heck too!) with a neat use of the 3D - not too gimmicky and not too subtle. It's the best launch title, IMO.
I love it. I dunno which forum it was on, but someone pointed out that - no wait it was the hotspot - if you are constantly waiting for the next big thing (or better version of the current thing) you will be waiting forever. If you want to see the next big nintendo handheld, you need to buy this one. That's just how it works, people. Companies don't make stuff whether people buy it or not. The only reason we have the DS is because people bought the Virtual Boy (*shudder...*) ... oh I guess I just get philosophical when I've been awake 30 hours straight. Also, is it weird that I'm super attracted to that masculine chick?
Shotogan, first off, it's "Patience". And what you're saying, "No one would get a port for anything", is what I'm trying to say. Why would you get Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, if you already have it on a different console (Like PS3)? Who knows, I may buy a 3DS if it gets a DS or maybe even Gamecube (Yes, Gamecube)-quality library. But right now, it's full of either ports or bad games.
@pH347m3. I think you might need some patients. Also no one would get a port for anything. Why would you get a port for xbox360 when you have it on ps3. That doesnt mean that either is crap.
The only thing weak about the 3DS as far as I'm concerned is the game line up but that's okay gives me more time to save up.
Its heavy compared to DSi and DSLite? Really? Someone weighed the 3ds and Ds lite and there was 18 grams difference. Such a HUGE difference! I'm a rather weak typical chick and I had no problem at all with it. It appears they're getting a little too picky to me.
The hand cramping complaint is kind of weak. I don't even have large hand, and the placement of the circle pad and trigger buttons is fine with me. I actually find it a bit more comfortable than the DSi to use. But the software selection SUCKS.
I havent liked anything Nintendo since I was a kid but i have to say the 3DS is pretty impressive. The 3D is definitely very cool and gives a depth to games that i have never seen on a handheld. The launch titles are pretty sketchy but there are a few very decent ones. Ridge Racer believe it or not is by far my favorite and I havent enjoyed a ridge racer game well never. The pilot wings is pretty cool too. Street fighter looks amazing but hey its street fighter. I got my kicks out of street fighter in pizzaria's in NYC growing up 15-20 years ago. Avoid The Soccer game at all costs! I bought just cause i buy a sports game with every launch. i bought the psp version when the psp first launched and enjoyed it very much. the controls are horrible and about as responsive as a dead fish. Those are the only games i bought. i will buy Zelda but i am really waiting for an adult game like resident evil. As far as the hand thing the second guy was rightbut I found the solution on amazon for $10 and it made all the difference in the world. the controller attachment that the 3Ds slips into to make it feel like a console controller. What a difference and Im sure people will say it makes it bigger which it does but it makes playing so much more enjoyable and doesnt hurt my hands after about an hour. I am happy with my first Nintendo purchase since the N64 and i am waiting for the NGP as is everyone else!
The lineup of games for the 3DS launch was very weak, the best got an 8.5 which is great but the others were progressively worse with the 5th best game barely getting a 6.5 score which obviously is pretty lousy and it's the 5th (!!!) best game. U can only imagine how bad the rest were. I am not impressed at all.
I got the 3DS on the release day in the Uk. I got Rayman 3D, and Splinter Cell 3D, then Dragon quest, and Pokemon Black. I found that the 3D was great with Rayman 3D, but the gameplay was alittle boring, aswel as Splinter Cell, the graphics were great for a cartage based handheld, but the game lacked alot of interest. I ended up playing the two normal DS games much more. Anyways, the device it's self is really impressive, i loved looking through the AR cards, and the faceraiders stuff, i'm really excited for the Eshop and the internet explorer from the device. The only thing i wont see myself doing is doing the street pass, here in London, it feels alittle dodgey to walk around with something expensive on you, which is a huge shame, as it seemed they put alot of work into that part of the device. Out of 10 this device is a 9, but that's mainly because they didn't release any strong games with it's launch.
I purchased 2 3DS with 9 games. Street Fighter, Ghost Recon, Ridge Racer, Pilotwings, Pro Evolution Soccer, Rayman 3D, Lego Star Wars, Bust a Move and Nintendogs plus Cats. Love them all! I don't play portable systems that much like when I was younger, but with 3DS, I always want to play it. I love the 3D effect and it doesn't bother me at all. I like it at full blast too. It's the best 3D in my opinion because the colors aren't dimmed down like with the glasses, and there is no flicker as well. Haven't played my PS3 in two weeks, but I'll eventually start playing it again once I beat most of these games on 3DS.
@Morphine_OD Look, I would be very happy, if a Crysis would come out on a handheld, but I just doubt, that it will happen. The NGP looks awesome, and I will definitly buy it, but it's still just a handheld. What Sony says about its engine, is probably far from the truth. But you know what? If it really comes out on the NGP, I will be so happy, I'll bake you a cookie, okay?
I just hope the shoulder buttons don't end up getting messed up like they did on my DS Lite and my DSi.
@HungarianGamer Oh I didn't know you were from Crytek. Why won't there be Crysis 2 for NGP? I thought that the engine was pretty good at scaling environments and NGP's processing power was close to the PS3 with slightly lesser resolution.
@awssk8er716: Thanks for your opinion about the 3DS. Yeah i dont think the 3D is the only good thing about the 3DS. I really hope there will be a lot of great games (especially from Nintendo) coming to 3DS soon
@riou7 I hate people who think the only thing new is 3D. If the 3DS didn't have 3D, it would still be my favorite console/handheld of all time because there are so many other new things. You really don't have to use the 3D. The 3D has never hurt my eyes, and I only use it 50% of the time.
Personally, I have no problems with the hardware of the 3DS besides the stylus location and the headphone jack location. The only problem now is the lack of games, and the firmware has to be updated (Which is coming in May). Also, I love the part at the end with the SD card. That's one huge reason why the iPad and iPhone suck.
I like it so far, even though I'm not interested in any of the launch titles. The second guy talking was spot on when he mentioned the hand cramping after hours of game play.
ok I have a DS do suck it up that the hardwares too heavy,if it seriously is that big of an issue go excercise a little I mean really.I agree that the depth slider seems way to loose.
too heavy? a dirty slider? not enough software? wow... i'm not a toddler, i keep all my electronics clean and covered, and im having a great time with street fighter and ghost recon, 3DS gets a thumbs up from me
the graphics look like crap, and that racing game they showed..wow it looks extremely boring
I'm not really sure to buy a 3DS now since i heard a lot of people complaining about their eyes hurt when playing on 3D mode
i cant wait im going to have mine next day lol im gonna get streetfighter 4. beware online players here i come!
@Morphine_OD Most console launches are like this. I'm sorry that we don't all live in the same dream world you do.
@bigtruckseries there will be no crysis edition in psp2 and even if they make one it will not worth your while because they will not waste time making another edition to psp2 they will just developed to xbox360 ps3 and pc.
