People are surprised Capcom released Super Street Fighter IV? Didn't you learn after all of the variations of 2 and 3?
Capcom unveils some cool new modes for the latest entry in the Street Fighter series.
While we've had a pretty good idea of what to expect from Super Street Fighter IV, Capcom managed to surprise us at its recent press event. Producer Yoshinori Ono showed off some new modes that will be available on disc when the game launches and unveiled a cool Tournament mode that will be made available free of charge this June. He also finally took the wraps off of the special perk Street Fighter IV owners get for picking up the game.
The first part of the presentation ran us through Team Battle mode that supports two-on-two, three-on-three, and four-on-four player fights. The nice touch to the mode is the level of control over group brawls and the amount of customizable options available. You'll be able to designate a leader who can pick the order and makeup of the team to keep things balanced, as well as set various options for the matches.
The nice touch here is that, while the leader is setting things up, the rest of the group can kill time playing in Arcade mode (you'll still be able to receive fight requests while you're waiting as well). When everything is sorted, the leader can summon everyone to the match. The matches play out a bit differently from the last game, thanks to the ability for everyone to spectate and, in perhaps the coolest twist to the mode, save replays of any match you watch by hitting the select button at any point during a match. The replay is saved to the new replay channel, where you'll be able to watch it.
The channel itself will feature several different categories focusing on different character groupings, such as the classic street fighters or the alpha characters. What's especially cool about this is that you'll have two very important options when rewatching matches that are perfect for helping out anyone hungry to improve their game. The first option is pretty basic--a slow-motion option for the replay. But the second--the option to have controller input data shown--is incredibly useful for anyone looking to hone their skills. A nice extra perk to the replay mode is the ability to invite friends to watch the replay and chat with them--which would be perfect for some online schooling.
The latter part of the presentation showcased the upcoming Super Tournament mode, which is a free piece of downloadable content set to hit on June 15. The mode will support up to eight players with a ninth player serving as the overall host and a staggering amount of customization options that lets anyone set up a proper tournament. What's especially cool is that you'll actually be able have custom titles created that people can earn as a prize for your tournament.
Finally, Ono took the wraps off the perk original Street Fighter IV owners get for picking up Super Street Fighter IV: two unique graphical filters for your character. If you have saved data from Street Fighter IV, the filters will show up in your costume selection. The first is a pencil shader that adds cross hatching to your fighter's model. The second is an ink shader that adds an ink wash. The effects are cool but seem a little thin as perks go.
From the look of things, Super Street Fighter IV should come packing a good amount of content out of the gate that's nicely balanced to newcomers and veterans. The replay mode and the options it presents as a learning resource are excellent for those trying to ease into Street Fighter. On the other hand, the free downloadable Tournament mode is a nice bonus that adds another dimension to online play for veteran street fighters. While we'd like to have seen a better perk for owners of the original Street Fighter IV, there's still a pretty great array of content between the modes we touched on, as well as the new characters and balancing. Super Street Fighter IV is set to ship next week for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
I gotta get a new arcade stick before I get Super Street Fighter IV. because my old one is acting funny with some of the moves.
I'm getting that SSFIV game on Tuesday, that's for sure. I still have my MadCatz SFIV Fightpads and Fightstick. - http://store.gameshark.com/StreetFighterIV5 If you guys don't have one, get them now. They are great. This is a must buy for every SFIV fan. I'm not too happy about the weak perks for owning SFIV either. Some new modes or characters that you can download to the original SFIV would have been nice. Even some M$ points would have been cool. Bah!!!
I must put my hater cap on for one second. "When will fighting games just go away? They are so stupid!" Ok, I'm done thanks for your time.
would be mad if they did so a 3vs3 battle system like marval vs capcom and u could switch between characters, guess i got to wait for MvC3 for the update lol, still would be kool if SSF4 did that lol
That was what I really miss on street fighter IV The TEAM BATTLE I couldnt and I still cant believe the original version doesnt have team battle. Nice improve!!! I think now the extra $$ worth to buy the "super". :)
Street Fighter IV is easily the best online-fighter ever... Team battle sounds pretty awesome. I can't believe that some idiots still think this should be a DLC.
The added perk should have been downloadable for people to put in their SF4 license key in to be able to download it. Now anyone can just rent or borrow the original just to get a save file to get the added perk. It takes away from the people who legitimately purchased and still own the original.
i must say as we most people i am a little let down by the free "capcom loves you for owning both games perk" would have been nice to have those plus some other things like costumes or as someone previously said some time locked feature...but oh well at the end of the day i get to enjoy both games and im happy with that....cant wait for SSF4 and now i cant wait for MvC3 altho the sentence "they are running it on the RE5//LP2 engine" did worry me a bit but hey if they deliver a really SF experience that is as good as either SF4 or MvC2 then im happy....oh an capcom while im here any chance of another Capcom vs SNK as that was another quailty crossover!
I still think this could have been dlc or an update. Look at burnout paradise (that game had its graphics completely upgraded in a free update).
As far as i know, the shaders probably were the best upgrade for capcom to go with for owning SFIV. If only they allowed for your save file to unlock previous titles you already earned in SFIV in SSFIV as that would also be a nice touch. Anything else over these things would break the game and give unfair advantage to people who pay and are not skilled.
Well all in all I am disappointed in the reward for people who have SF4 saves. Now that that's out I am excited to get a hold of the new modes. My SF4 online could only go so far but now it has been rejuvenated.
Wow thats it. Some shaders!?!?! I cant believe i waited all this time 4 the special thing 4 the ppl who bought SF4 & all we get r some shaders! Wow!
@ Jubei1134 It doesn't matter about the amount of violence in it, it is simply hands-down one of the best fighting game systems for competitive players. The only fighting game better is guilty gear, but that's too unbalanced for competitive play.
Street Fighter is a great game for the younger crowd and parents don't mind buying it for their children because of the soft core nature of the game. Blood is low and designers do a great job at evoiding anything death or obvious murder, even the characters look untouched laying down after they just got beat down. Wow they even have team battle mode hahaha thats only been around for 10+ years and its another soft core style example. Its basically a faster way to keep a match going until one player lost their small team....wow..snooze. The best Street Fighter ever made is STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 3 on Sega Dreamcast hands down. IT HAD ONE THING that no other Street Fighter after it offered.... 2 VS 1 AT THE SAME TIME BEAT DOWN OF ONE COMPUTER PLAYER!!! SOO much fun fighting one computer player while you and a friend are beating the front and back of his face with windmill kicks before setting him on fire. Well Capcom got comlaints for the 2v1 because of violence and nerds dont have friends to justify developing a two vs 1 game. They sell to kids so they get street fighter and Rockstar makes games for people who know they are playing a video game and want to murder, steal, and sell drugs because ITS A VIDEO GAME, as in NOT REAL. If you dont like those games dont buy them! You live in a free country so we are gonna murder, rape, steal, sell and use drugs in our video games all day long and if you dont like it, "you can geeeeetooouuttt"
I paid like 25£ to get the first one, now I have to pay another 25£ to get this one... no discount Capcom? I think I might wait for the EX4 version to appear if they keep this up.
what about the price ? I hope I have to pay another 50 $, 4 months after I picked up Street Fighter IV, right ?
Finally an ink shader just what i wanted......-_-. Nice perk Crapcom, really who bright idea was that ? You want me to shell out 40 more bucks for ink and modes that should have been in the first game? No thnx just don't mess up MvC3 but by the look of the graphics and the fact you guys are trying a new control scheme , that ship might just be ready to sail -_-.
What a bad perk for original owners. Give the orignal owners something else thats either DLC for free for orignals or time locked addition
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds (PS3)--I really hope they take the Super Street Fighter IV approach. The new Okami looks pretty sweet too!:)
@grey_fox1984 I can't support a feature that doesn't leave people who own just SSFIV feeling slighted. I'm a bastard, I admit it.
i hate how i have to wait intul june for the tournament mode. and i was expecting more on the bonus. im still going to get it i love how the price is only 39.99
man they should have made Evil Ryu the bonus for owners of the original SFIV. giving Ryu red eyes and Akuma's move set wouldnt be that hard and saying as owners of just SSFIV would still have Akuma and [normal] Ryu, they wouldn't feel slighted.
What happened to the Dramatic Battle Mode from the Alpha series? That was the best thing Capcom ever did for a fighting game (aside from announcing MvsC3). That mode alone would guarantee my purchase.
i am REALLY hopein that vega is in marvel vs capcom 3 vega and gambit are the only people i need to make me happy :)
