Smash Bros: Still an excellent game even today!

User Rating: 9.9 | Super Smash Bros. Melee GC
Where to begin... the gameplay, the graphics, sound, the frame rate, replayability... All astonishing features of this game. Many people will just look at it as smash bros and jump into this game knee-deep, but there's so much more that can be done. With all the advanced techinques (L-canceling, wavedashing, mini hops, teching, spiking, etc.) The depth of this gameplay is phenominal. Skill boundries are almost limitless. The graphics accompany this game very well also. The stylish 3D graphics in a two dimensional playing field tie together really well with the solid frame rate, as did its predecessor. The characters ranged from the cartoonish look, like Ice Climbers, to more serious awesome characters, like Ganon, and since the graphics are so nicely done, this adds great varietion in the appearance. The sound in the game is also outstanding. Although probably not as significant as its other aspects, the sound does bring back many nostagias as you play the 25 different levels in the game. With all old themes, like balloon fighters, super mario bros. etc., orchastrated to perfection, it's hard not to appreciate the music in the game. Of course SSBM wouldn't be the game that it is without one essential element: its multiplayer. Whether your playing a one-on-one or a free-for-all melee the game's multiplayer aspect is easily the best part of the game. With other people to compete against, your smash skills keep reising and rising to levels previously thought unimaginable. Tournements also take this game leaps and bounds. Once you get the hang of the advanced techniques and you think that you can handle heavier competitions, take it to the tournements and test your smash abilities. This is the main way to get signifacantly better than the rest of your friends. So whether your looking for a good game, a good time with some friends, or a good lifestyle, Super Smash Bros.: Melee is easily one of the, if not THE best game for the Nintendo GameCube, hands down. -Dark_Lawn_Gnome
