An absolute classic. One of the greatest multiplayer experiences of all time.

Though I am far from an experienced gamer, I have certainly played a diverse array of games. Like every other form of media we interact with, video games come and go and very rarely are able to maintain the pull that drives you to addiction in the first place. That being said, Melee is different. Melee is the game that you can play for hours, days, months, and years, and it never feels old. You might get burned out on it if you play it extensively, but it could never be a game that gives that feeling of, "I never want to play this again." Though the adventure and classic modes might seem to be the central part of the single-player experience, they're really quite boring. The only real purpose of those modes is to present a challenge in unlocking the characters. After that, the real fun begins. The traditional melee/brawl mode of the Smash Bros. series sets it apart from all others. Even if someone wants to call this a fighting game, it's not. It's so much better. Controls might seem simplistic by comparison, but the simplicity is what makes it so perfect. Rather than memorizing stupid, tedious button combinations, players simply learn to master sequencing the simple, clean controls. All in all, Melee is an absolute wonder of a game, and will most likely remain a champion of simplistic, multiplayer fun for a very long time.
