Super Smash Bros. Melee ... Where should I begin? I've played this game more than any other game. My friends and I have been playing for over a year at every get-together for hours at a time. The only game I could have possibly racked up as many hours on is Age of Mythology, which is its online counter-part in my life. So lets get to business and I'll explain why that ranking is actually a little low in my mind but I can't lie about how good the graphics or sound are, can I? Gameplay - Simply put SSBM is the best fighting game ever made. It uses an innovative KO system instead of the classic life meters, which is both good and bad but definitely new. In addition, it uses plenty of items – which remind me, these are tons of options in this game, it stores TONS of statistics, and if you’re like me those stats are probably pretty interesting – which provide a lot of strategy (and LUCK!) to the game. Of course, it doesn’t get complete carried away like some games (i.e. Mario Kart: Double Dash) with the items. Overall, the best console multiplayer game ever made. You really just need to play it for yourself. Graphics – If you don’t care about environments that this rating won’t matter for you. Just skip this section. I’ll try to make this quick, the character models are really well done and detailed but the overall environments (which are fairly small for the most part) are terrible. Some of the effects and objects are complete 2-D, and the polygon count is lower than the average rating of Terminator 3. Of course, I don’t think the environment in a fighting game are THAT important and the characters really are stunning thus it gets an average 7. Sound – The sound is the game is just that – decent. Nothing new or interesting nor anything really terrible. It sound like all the other Nintendo games and carries over their sound effect accordingly. You probably aren’t playing for sound anyway, right? Value – SSBM as a stated before is engrossing, and keeps you playing for hours on end with you friends. As I said its my most played game of all time and how can that be in any way, shape or form a bad value? Go buy it already you should be already running to the store.
