Why this game isn't that great

User Rating: 2.5 | Super Smash Bros. Melee GC
Super Smash Bros. Melee is a fighting game on the Gamecube. It's a follow up to the fantastic original Super Smash Bros. on the N64. However, this one has to be one of the most over hyped games in history. I'm not going to lie to you. I have had a lot of fun with this game. But that was when I didn't have the sense to realize how bad this game really is. My first and biggest complaint. The arenas are too small. The characters appear huge on the screen! The only one that is big enough the the one where you are on the big ship. Another thing. You can easily tell a lot of the levels are exactly the same, just with different themes. For instance, about 10 levels are the same tiny ground section with 3 platforms above it. Originality please? Next are the secret characters. The characters they give you to start are good. They are all different and each has different strategies. Then you unlock Luigi, a seemingly exact copy of Mario. Then you unlock Ganadorf, which has a surprising resemblance to Captain Falcon. Young Link is somewhat similar to Link. I can go on and on. Fact is the secret characters aren't worth wasting your time to get because they are copy's of characters you already have! What a rip-off. What were they thinking? The single player modes are just boring. At least they had originality on the adventure mode. It seems like every ounce of imagination went into Adventure mode, but when it came to secret characters and levels, they just thought, "whatever." Why did this game get a better rating than the original one? Graphics are pretty nice, no griping there. Sound is also good, the music relates to each level. So to conclude, there is nothing special about this game, not even close to deserving the hype it got and still gets.
