A great ensemble of robots, one of the longest super robot campaigns; a lot of fun!

My first super robot wars game was super robot wars 2 on the playstation. So playing this psp iteration, I had some experience under me. Yet even with some sort of veterancy, I was still learning new things from guides on gamefaqs, and a much helpful site called akarasu (google it, I highly recommed).

As this is a niche' game, and very few have heard of it outside of Japan, I'll try my best to give a layman's description for those who are interested, and would like to try a super robot wars/taisen game. There's a plethora of characters from many robot series; as the game's story is an amalgamation of the various storylines from the series'. The game is long, around 50 plus stages with a new game plus once you beat the final mission. To add replayability, there is an additional path you can choose midway in the game, a space and earth path. The difference to this selection is that you will be limited to a few robots on either path (which can be difficult if you were not fond of using them).

The animations and voice over by the seiyu's (japanese VA's) are top notch, and if you are a fan of any of the robot anime series, you would appreciate the quality that is done here. Battles can be long, but you can skip the scenes and play the game somewhat faster, albeit, a single scenario can still last anywhere from 20-30 minutes; even with the skipping of battle sequences. Thankfully, you can save almost anytime during your phase in a scenario. Also, should you ever lost a scenario, you will start over will all your accumulated experience and money (which helps a lot, and is great for those level grinders), of course you would have to press X a lot to skip through the narration to get back to the battle screen (which can be a chore if you do not understand Japanese).

This is a great Japanese strategy role playing game, and should be on the cheaper side now on ebay; most japanese games, super robot taisen especially are most expensive, and finding a cheap one is hard to come by. I thoroughly enjoyed this game.
